i not only missed my second deer of the year( an axis doe that moved its neck at the same time i pulled the trigger) but also a bobcat not once, but TWICE ( first shot hit a twig, was getting out of the blind, looked over and he was sitting in the road, shot at him again at 150 yards and hit just under him. i'm going to the range on thursday
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

both of the rifles were on, i have just been getting shaky or jerking the trigger. don't know whats wrong.

I agree with bigbill. No trying to rub it in, since I missed this weekend, but neck shots, unless everything is perfect, are low percentage shots. Admittedly, you either kill or you don't, and in most cases, if you do hit, but don't drop the animal, it has a chance of living over the incident.
Neck shots are spectacular, if everything is right. I don't think anything is wrong, with you or your rifles other than maybe a little bit of trying a shot you should have passed on. I think that you will more than make up for it. GOOD LUCK.

the bobcat was a rookie mistake, i was shaking too soon. both does i shot at had their necks down eating, and both moved right at the last second. i have killed i don't know how many animals with neck shots, but every one besides those two had their necks up. i think thats the deal, they move too quickly. and i shoot all my bucks in the shoulder.

Try whistling next time the deer will look right at you long enough to make the shot. Aim at the white patch if facing you or the middle if broadside. Can't help you on the bobcat. I missed one twice once but my scope was off

I've tried that whistling business, along with watching several other folks try it, never worked for any of us. In fact, in most cases, they seemed to pick up speed. JMO

You're not the only one who sucks. Last year I got one good shot the whole year... and missed. I couldn't figure for the life of me what happened... but when I sighted in at the beginning of this year I was centered, but 6" high. I figure something got bumped. This year after the first weekend of banging my rifle around in the scaboard for three days, I went back to the range... and it was dead on. Maybe the wife sabotaged my rifle because I won't take her to Alaska.

BTW, those little noises only seem to work if the deer are not spooked. Otherwise they keep moving... fast!

That's what I do as well and seems to work quite well. I shoot them in the middle of the white spot on there neck, if they have one.

Yup. I've used it to turn a deer to a better angle that was just walking around but have never had it work once they're tail up and running away.

Opening weekend I shot a deer at 65yrds with my 30/30, iron sights. I aimed right behind the shoulder, pulled the trigger, the deer fell. I watched it flop around, was going to let it die so i would not have to track it. When it stoped moving I started climing out of the stand. The deer then stood up turned around and started walking off. I am trying to chamber another round while standing half way up a 12 foot lader. I then searched 2 plus hours with the neighbor and my brother-n-law. Never found him. I could see where he fell and where he scratched and kicked to get up, but never even found a drop of blood. I guess the muzzle blast knocked him on his side! Add my name to the "I SUCK" list.
btw I went to Alpine and shot 1.5 in low with the sites on dead center at 100 yds 2 weeks later.

One of my friends got a buck to stop by going "WHOO"--the buck slid to a stop from running full out.
I've tried it since then, they never stop for me! But it did work that time.

I don't know--like I said, it's never worked for me, but he got the buck (nice 6 pt)!
Who can tell what a deer will do 100% of the time!
