Yes, you read that right. I think I may have accidentally saved a coyote from a deer. I'm 95% sure it was a coyote but it was getting dark so not positive.
Not quite sure though. So I was driving home on a county road and saw a deer head on the side, as I was pulling up it spooked and ran about 20 yards away. So I pull up to where it was and see it just staring at me. I'm parked on top of a culvert right where the deer was and notice a coyote come racing out of there like a bat out of hell. It didn't look at me but he was getting somewhere and I don't know where he went due to the foliage. The deer didn't flinch at all when the coyote came running out.
So can anyone explain what might have been going on here? It almost seems like the deer(may have been more than 1, but that's all I saw) was pissed at this coyote.

I posted this last year, but didn't have pics so caught flack over it.
Headed to work one morning early, past a field where 2 doe had been keeping their fawns. I spot a doe so I slowed down and see she's upset stiff legging around and blowing. Then I spotted the yote closer to me in the brush. He started to run but I whistler so he sat down and was watching me. That's when the doe saw her chance with him being distracted. She ran into him full tilt and spun him out, whacked him a few good times with her front hooves, then stomped him pretty good too. I could heard him yelp and even seen hair flying. I laughed until my sides hurt while he high tailed with the doe on his arse.

There could have been a fawn but I didn't see it.
I just thought it was pretty crazy. The coyote came roaring out of that culvert and never stopped lol. He was getting somewhere.

I have seen a bobcat cut across where deer were eating, they all watched him and started to follow. The bobcat had a rabbit in its mouth, well it did till I shot it. The deer then ran up on the bobcat and wondered what happened to it...no stomping on him but were stomping the ground and then went and sniffed it.
The bunny wiggled loose and ran to the woods.
Normally we don't shoot them but we have just started seeing a couple turkeys and found a fawn dead the week before so we kill preditors, skunks, possiums, and hogs.

There was more than likely a fawn there close by. I spotted 5 coyotes in June one year on a tank dam about 15 minutes before sunset. I parked and worked over there about 3/4 mile away. When I got there they were gone so I took my coyote call and blew it a few times(distressed cottontail). I had a doe run right at me everytime I blew the call she would blow, stomp and run at me downwind from me. I kept calling and had another doe come at me from another direction on the run and did not stop. I could tell she was acting different with her ears pinned back. When the cleared the brush line into the tank area she was chasing a coyote. He was running to the call as fast as he could and she was after him. I was trying to line up on him but laughing so hard I could not find him in my scope at 25 yards, he then caught my scent leaving on very quickened pace. I tried on hail mary shot and missed. The doe stood there and stomped/snorted at me till I got up and walked away.

You should what mule deer doe do when you blow a fawn or cottontail rabbit distress call in West Texas. They will almost run over you to get at the call.

Try using a fawn distress call when the fawns are dropping, there is a chance you will have a doe ready to kick some butt.
