We should put a sticky up...where Newbies can post questions...and people that know the answer can reply to the questions...

To where We don't have a page full of questions and Newbies can look at the post and possibly find what they are looking for...

What do you think?

J.J.

Aw man, that won't be as much fun. I like the people who can't take jokes and freak out on everyone. Much more entertaining.

Here's what I copied from another forum, just recently posted this year. And no, it's not from the Refuge. . .

Tip #1: Introduce yourself first. Put up some info on the introduction thread so we can find out something about you and know who we're dealing with. A general location of residence helps a lot, as does a general knowledge of your age and experience in the outdoors.

Tip #2: Never ask where to hunt. Just don't do it. You WILL be hazed if you do. All of us put a lot of time and effort into finding our preferred areas, and you should do the same. The board is not an alternative to reading your APH book, knowing the local game waden, calling lake or water body authorities, and SCOUTING. Put your time in and do it the right way without shortcuts.

Tip #3: Know your regs. Read the TPWD book cover to cover and know it well. There will be all kinds of pranks played on this board, but if you know your regs you can laugh and play along and understand the humor. If you get taken by one of said pranks, it means you need to do some more studying before you hit the field.

Tip #4: Treat conversations here as you would if you actually met the person in the field. Young un's should be respectful of the old un's, and newbies should be respectful of those with a lot of experience under their belt. When you don't know what you're talking about, and argue with someone who does, we all know and you look stupid. That makes you either a real life poser, or an internet poser. We will all assume the former.

Tip #5: Participate. Don't just check in to read reports and try to pick off someone's spots from the pictures. Participate and you'll likely make some very close friends. Just check in and never participate and you'll be called a cyberscouter. Play along on the other stuff like politics and sports, and post up some pics of the kids, and prayer requests, etc. That's the difference between a member and a poster, to me. The members are a whole lot more likely to get some real and in person help, or even get a hunting invite, than just a poster.

Tip #6: Newbies, post up and ask questions. You might get some funny answers, but you'll get some serious one's too. It's OK to not know, and we actually enjoy answering and throwing out some opinions. A lot of times we don't talk about duck hunting because it's all been said before, so we talk sports or politics or kids or whatever. But ask a question, and we'll gladly get right back to the birds.

Tip #7: Don't mind the jokes and banter. It's no different than being in a duck blind. Pranks, sarcasm, jabs, and laughs are had. We laugh at the Barney that set up too close or wails on a kazoo, and we give each other a hard time. The younger members sometimes catch the brunt of it, but it's all in good fun.

I think that most of the newbies that we're seeing now (NOT ALL) is the lingering smell from a turd pasted a long time ago.

Jmo, that is really what the forum is for. Newbs ask questions, members post with replies. Each question is better with it’s own thread, because most answers are opinions. “what’s the best call?”, “what’s the best shell?”, “what’s the best setup?”, etc…
