I have a very limited exposure to AR's over the past 45 plus years. I do shoot left handed and was thinking about a Stag Arms, Rock River, or R/H DMPS..the last because it's in the Jerry's catalog at the gun club..$1024 wholesale w/a 24in bbl upgraded trigger. I have shot several Bushmasters and they in both 5.56 and 7.62 were MOA or sub MOA weapons..I won't feed one of anything that is over 1 in groups from 100 yds..I only want one for shooting pigs at range on some of the ranches I still cull shoot..We prefer head shots which usually anchor the animal DRT..Please advise your opinions on above..Don

One thing I really like about the AR10 platform is that it can be relatively light weight. That's not such a big deal if a guy is shooting paper from a bench. It's a different story when it's on your shoulder all day. So even though the DPMS for $1024 is priced nice; how much does it weigh with the 24" BBL and where is that weight centered?

That is a good point. I have a FNAR. I really like the rifle. It weighs 9+ pounds. Since I hunt from blinds it is not a problem for me but I would not have an easy time in the mountains

My opinion is tainted since I own a Cetme. But for less money there are comparable options that are just as good.

Almost bought a AR-10 but went with the FN SCAR-17 due to light weight instead. Just shy of 8 pounds, consider a SCAR for a semi-auto 308 if weight is a concern for you and money was no object.

I bought my wife an AR10 Rock River in 308 and have been very pleasantly suprised. The accuracy is on par with a quality bolt action even with factory loads and does not recoil much at all. Its not a light gun by any standards, but its a shooter and the fit and finish is top notch. If I ever buy another, I know that Rock River will get my business.

DPMS has one with a carbon fiber free float tube. You can add an ACE stock and shave 1/2 lb or find one with skeletonized A2 style. I would go with a 20" hunting contour barrel. After scoped you are going to be looking at 9-10 lbs with a 5 round magazine.

Used to own a FAL and a CETME a long time ago. Looking at getting back into 308s.

One reason I'm leaning to the AR platform over a CETME or FAL if I do 308 again, is the ready availability and diversity of parts. CETME and FAL are great in my opinion, but when it came to getting parts, choices were limited.

Russian VEPR is a solid option.

Russian Saiga is pretty solid.

Im not concerned about wgt or length except I'd like to keep enough tube to burn all the powder and get max velocity and they usually point better. All of my shooting is from a large steel blind with bags or from a veh occasionally..Pushing 70 my hiking days are limited now..My TRG this AM shot a 5 shot group uphill thru tall grasses ect 3 shot touched 2 in almost same hole and other two made group about 1 1/2 in totall..If an AR will even get close to that I'm satisfied.. I need the fast 2nd shot and more if we get hogs in a sendero and I want more than one..DD
