Im using neoprene 1600 from Cabelas and my son chose thinner breathable waders so he can use them for fall fly fishing and not burn up. What would be a good but reasonably priced base clothing for him? He's 13 and will only hunt about 15 times through the season so I don't want to spend $200 on high end base layers for him. Any suggestions?

Don, I wear a pair of polartech(Underarmer knock offs) leggins under my waders with a good pair of wool socks and always stay warm and I am cold natured. On super cold morning Ill put on a pair of Underarmor sweatpant over the leggins, but most times I end up roasting. Good tight fitting leggings are the way to go for me

I have the tan and the black ones that you get from the army surplus (for different temps). I havent found anything even close in comparison for a base layer. I also have a pair of fleece wader pants that I sometimes wear. I could probably live without them but it make me feel like Im getting my moneys worth.

When I wear under clothing in waders, I wear the latest and greatest blend available. That is the greatest polyester/cotton blend known to man. They are called sweat pants, sold in a walmart near you.

I like the cabelas wader pants that got the stirrups in them. They are warm and awesome for jumping ponds or eating at a cafe after the hunt. Used to wear basketball shorts over long Johns. Resembled a rodeo clown with the face paint and odd getup....(yes this was pre Jeff foiles/ duckmen craze days.)
OMG, this is the best slumber party ever!

I just dont want to break the bank on underwear. Baylor-Hope you're feeling better.

Fleece pants, sweat pants...I'll sometimes wear long johns and wind pants just staying comfortable when it's not real cold.

It all depends on where I am hunting. If I drive my boat, I wear under armor pants, or fleece sweatpants with a pair of fleece socks. Fleece hoodie, etc.
If I am hiking in, I wear pajama pants or lighter fleece pants.
Goodwill is a great place to get hunting clothing- as I find half my stuff there. Ive gotten hunting jackets with tags still on, hunting boots with tags, underarmor.
