Even though I've had to first field dress a few, I've always been able to drag the WTs I've killed into the bed of my pick up.

But now there is fat, fat, fat boar that I'm planning to stick with an arrow and I know I won't be able to lift him. Besides hauling out an A-frame with block and tackle, how else would I be able to get him into the bed of the truck? I hunt alone...all my myself...so any advice would be appreciated.

PS--I'm imagining either 1) quartering where is lays or 2) dragging him whole back to camp where I can use my truck to pull him into a tree with a rope.

make a sheet metal sled or something and drag him back with the ball of your truck?

I shot a huge buck a couple years ago, and couldn't lift him into the back of my Jeep, and the one time I didn't bring my receiver hitch carry rack, so I broke out the tow strap, tied his horns to the trailer hitch, and commenced to dragging him to camp where I was able to hoist him with the use of the block and tackle.

Other than a big patch of missing hair he was no worse for wear.

If you know how to weld, you can make one a heck alot cheaper.

There is a huge, huge boar that I've seen where I hunt, and I know it's in the max weight range of a wild hog, and I'm planning to feed a whole county of buzzards, coyotes, and whatever else is looking for a meal the day I get a chance to take him down.

He's been doing a lot of damage on the farm I'm hunting on!

I've drug'em a half a mile or more and you couldn't tell that I did. I think dragging it will be fine. Your not eating the skin anyway. But if it is real big I would haul it off and feed it to the yotes.

I read in outdoor life that you can use a pole cut from a tree to tie the legs to, then tie a shorter pole of wood near the end like a cross to use as handle bars, and you can drag it that way. I hope this makes sense.

don't drag a deer you want to mount period. Odds are you will drag hair off. I like to have never got my mule deer in the truck last year by myself but finally managed, didn't gut him there where others would be hunting but you need a hoist that slides in receiver hitch hoist him up no work

last winter me and a friend carried a 300 lber out with a small tree we knocked over. we each donated a bootlace and tied it to the tree. was a long hard walk but it worked. there wasn't much else you could have gotten thru the thick woods.

Sounds like if you find you a hunting partner then your problems would be solved!

Drag him behind your truck till you get far enough away from your hunting area, then let the buzzards have him. Come back in acouple weeks and you have a free skull mount. If the hog is too big to lift in the truck then I wouldnt eat him.

If you absolutely, positively got to get that huge stinking boar into the back of your truck:

Take at loot at these from Cabela's
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa...&hasJS=true

As for getting it in the truck, BMD's got it with the hoist idea that fits into the reciever of your truck. Those work great to cape and quarter up your game.

Had a buddy on the lease a few years back who shot a 370 pounder while he was down there alone. Luckily it feel under one of two feeder on the place which were the winch type feeders. He dropped the barrel out of the way, and used the winch to get him in the truck, then drove on home.

But yeah, I agree, he ain't worth eatin' if he's that darn big. Let the critters have him, then come back for the head later.

But, if ya gotta. Here's an idea. Drop the tailgate on the truck all the way down (take the cables off so it flops down at angle to the ground like a ramp). Get some heavy rope. About two to three pieces 15' long should do it. Tie them to the tie down cleat in the bed of your truck, toward the front. String them out the back of the bed and lay them on the ground. Roll the nasty assed Boar up on them. Pull the ends back over the pig toward the truck. Tie all the ends to a come-along that is also anchored to the front of the bed. Then winch him on up there. Never done it, but I bet it'd work!

i'd leave one that big to rot, maybe [censored] the straps out without even field dressing him.....BUT if u want to get him in the truck and have a strong rope and some hooks at the front of the bed of your truck, cut between the tendons and tie both legs....then run the rope through the hooks two if u got em and then back to a tree. then ease on the gas and the critter will be lifed by your truck into the bed...go slow stop often and try to push with your strength as much [censored] possible....this is somthing i engineered in my head just now, so not sure it will work or what kind of load the hooks will take

the man at the top of the mountain didn't fall up it

I keep imagining thick pork chops on the grill...am I wrong? I've never been one to not do something because it's hard or not easy enough. The guy I lease from encourages me to shoot em and let em lay which is what I've done except once: brought home one sub-50lber that would fit on the grill. I've never tried to do anything with a big hog...but am willing to give it a shot. I just hope I'll be able to get it in the truck and recognize if any diseases are present.

With that, I thank you all for your suggestions and will be sure to post up any results.

along the lines of the come-along. Take one ratchet strap, one $10 gamble pulley system from any sporting store, 2 2X12 by 10 feet, and some rope or gamble. Attach pulley system to front of bed using strap, make ramp from 2X12, attach other end of pulleys to pig, pull up ramp. pulleys are a great way to move large amounts of weight with minimal effort. Never tried but do not see why it would not work.

HHUUMMMM, what to write, what to write, I got nothing.

I took the pork loins off a 350# boar hog and cut 1 inch slits all in it put fresh garlic in slits let it sit in ice bx for 24hrs in italian dressing, then smoked it.We ate it for xmas dinner and it was great. But I have had them also be too rank even after doing that.

How about the old gambrel/hoist from San Antonio Products...about 12 bucks... or better yet, quarter that sucker and put him in a cooler a piece at a time...

Not a thing wrong with big pigs, just gotta know how to process them

SAW THIS IN A MAGAZINE

CUT A SHEET OF 3/4 PLY TO FIT IN THE BED OF YOUR TRUCK
PUT AN EYE BOLT ON ONE END TO TIE GAME TO
PUT DEER OR HOG ON PLYWOOD, LIFT ONE END ON TO TAILGATE, THEN PICK UP OTHER END AND SLIDE PLYWOOD INTO TRUCK.

I shot a 300 pound boar last year and it was the best tasting hog I have ever had. Much better than a sow. I eat a lot of wild hog as well, so I know good hog from bad.

I expected it to be rank, but surprisingly when I started cutting into the meat and field dressing the hog, I didn't smell anything at all. Great eats! Ribs were awesome on the smoker as well.

Now that's an idea I hadn't thought of...very nice.

Do like you would if hunting in the mountains and had to pack out an Elk. Quarter it up and carry it out in manageable amounts. Much easier than anything else you could think of.

AMEN!!!

I get tired of hearing how terrible they are around here!! I think people either dont know what to do with a big hog, or are just looking for an excuse not to clean it!

Some people fail to realize that the pig meat they buy in the store comes from MUCH BIGGER pigs than the ones we kill in the wild!! And I dont see very many complaints about the way that meat taste!
