Looking to purchase a 22LR pistol for my daughter. She originally wanted the pink Sig Mosquito but after reviewing some internet articles, it seems to be a jammer. What brand/model to you recommend? I'm looking for something with high qualify and that will fit comfortably in a small hand and that is not heavy and bulky. Sounds like a tall order....

Ruger 22/45. I loved mine. Was an outstanding shooter. Great for small hands too. Doesn't look like a traditional semiauto, but I think its nice looking in its own right.
I kick myself everytime I think about when I sold it.

I kick myself everytime I think about me selling it. Would you be willing to sell it? I would be a cash buyer or even trade ammo if you have a need.

Sorry I don't have mine anymore. I edited my post to reflect that I sold it a while back. I've heard good things about the SR22 also.

Browning Buckmark, all day long. The Ruger is a great gun but a royal pain to tear down to clean.

I've got the Ruger 22-45 Lite and love it. Remind of that, when I go to tear it down....

The only problem I ever encountered with the Mark I/II/II is getting the hammer strut in the correct position for reassembly. Once that's figured out you're home free.

I took my Mark II apart once, and one of the pins on the side came out slightly, I reassembled that damn gun 3 times before I realized what I was doing wrong.
If the Mark II didn't perform so well, I would probably hold a grudge for it being tougher to field strip than most pistols.

Wow....many sugestions here. How old is your daughter?
edited to add: Sorry, but we need more info. Is she 9 and likes the Sig because it's pink, or is she 15 and likes the Sig because it's a Sig? Just asking because I know 15 year-old daughters can pick the one $50k rock out of a pile a pea gravel on the first shot.

I don't shoot Buckmarks as good as MkII's. That said either would be my recommendation. As many as say Neos-Mosquito-P22-SR22 or whatever is the greatest ever just as many hate them. I've personally never seen a MkII or Buckmark with problems that weren't owner induced. I bought two of my kids 22/45 MkIII Target's. That's the best advice I can give.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I had to laugh, I showed my daughter the SR22 the 22/45 mkII and III. First she saw the SR22 in purple that liked the way it looked. Then she looked at the mkII and III and said, "dad, that is a really ugly gun?!" It's almost like taking the girls to a dog race and they pick the cutest ones to win! LOL.

Well, I wouldn't buy one of the Beretta 22 pistols because I think they are ugly as homemade sin.

All .22lr pistols can be a little finicky. Lots of variation in .22lr ammo, and most of it is pretty dirty.
Just find the ammo it likes. I love my Browning Buckmark camper. I'm sure I would have loved the Ruger. I'd recommend a dedicated .22lr pistol.

Any ruger! Bought my 10-year old son the sr-22 for Christmas. Run close to a 1000 rounds through it without a malfunction of any kind. My experience with rugers over other brands, sig, walther, and brownings that i have owned is the rugers are not finicky on ammo. I have had the mk1/2/3 and never any ammo issues.

I stopped by the LGS yesterday and had a hard time leaving without the Browning mini 1911-22. I might not make it back home tomorrow without it. To be far, I'm a 1911 shooter and even my non 1911 guns I carry (Sig P938 and P238) are a whole lot like 1911s.

If you are looking for a revolver go with the Ruger Single Six. You get 2 cylinders. One fro the .@@ S/L/LR and one for the .22 WMR.
If you are looking for a SemiAuto I'd go with the S&W 22A or if you can afford it try the Model 41. I have S&W Model 622 that I got back in the 1990's and it's been going strong ever since.

I have a stainless Ruger Mk II that I bought in 1982. I could probably count the problems on one hand and it's literally had many thousands of rounds through it. I have a G17 frame with the 22 conversion slide on it. I've only shot it a few hundred times but it has never malfunctioned. I have Ruger Single Six Convertible made in 1975 but I haven't even shot it. Being a revolver I suspect it should feed, fire, and eject with no problem.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

How do you like that G17 conversion kit? I've been thinking of getting one. Do you have to shoot hot loads to cycle the slide or will regular value pack stuff work?
