5-Day Mountain Lion Hunt w/ Lion Hounds

Hunts left available to book February – May 2014.

Transportation is provided. Main meals and lodging are not included in this price…but we can tailor your hunt as well.

License Fees/Tags
Resident $43 Nonresident $300
Tag is over the counter, has to be bought at the latest 2 days prior.
Two lion tags will be given per hunter, the hunt is only for one lion, if a second is taken there will be an additional 1000 charge.

500.00 deposit to hold your hunt date remaining balance due 15 days prior to hunt date. The total hunt cost is $2700.00 per person. Note we prefer to harvest male lions instead of females to keep a healthy lion population, and male lions are the real trophy.

The hunt will be conducted by the means of mules, trucks, and hiking with the help of well trained/bred mountain lion hounds.

80-90% Success Rate Snow & 65-75% Success Rate Dirt. Toms average 130-185 lbs, Females 60-100 lbs.

Your trophy will be skinned for you and hide packed out. Packing out meat is not required by law nor is it recommended for consumption.

If a lion is not harvested during your hunt you are more than welcome to return and hunt for free, if time allows for the legal hunting season of your licensed tag.

Hunt will be conducted by guide and houndsman, Mike Bency and he will hunt extremely hard for you to take home that once in a life time trophy. Mike hunts lions year round, this is a life style for him, not a hobby.

Call Justin Medina (Owner of NM Arrowheadoutfitters) for pricing and to book your hunt today! Justin is also a taxidermist and will give any of our hunters a 10% discount on which ever mount is choosen.

Why is eating the meat not recommended? I've had it before, it's excellent.

I thought the old mountain men considered them a delicacy.

Its not recommended to my personal preference. You have to prepare it just right or you can contract triganosis. I'd rather eat beef.

Were basing our hunts in the SE and SW part of NM. From the deserts to the high mountains, which would be 4500-9500 elevation

Mountain lion meat is some of the best there is, I've eaten it the last 3 years and I promise you it's good stuff.

The hams I like to do as a roast, simply debone it and season to our liking. Put it in a crock pot with vegtables and seasoning and let it cook. I like to take the back straps and trim the muscle out that runs down the center then either cut into slices, tenderise and chicken fry or cut it into strips, wrap it in bacon with jalapeρo pepper jack cheese and onoin and throw it on the BBQ pit. The only thing I've ever done with the front shoulders is make jerky and summer sausage. Give it a try sometime, I'd bet you like it. It has the color and texture of pork but a flavor all it's own!

Ive had a few people ask how physically demanding is this hunt. And to answer that...The first couple of days will be somewhat difficult due to acclimating and after that you can expect to cover 15-20 miles off of mules/horses, and anywhere between 2-7 miles on foot depending on the hunting techniques and situation. But on the other hand we get real lucky and a hunter only walks 200 yards to a tree/bay up on his first day...

Ive had a few people call and ask if these hunts are "1 X 1 hunts" and yes they are.
The only time they will be 2 X 1 is if you book a hunt with your buddy. The max per 5 Day hunt is two hunters.
