Wow, I haven't been able to get anything but a busy signal when i dial up TPW to see the deer hunting results. Anybody gotten through and if so, had the drawings been done?

I checked this afternoon (9/11) when I was at work and none of the gun hunts I applied for had been drawn yet.

I have been calling since about 10 am and all I got were busy signals. Frustrating!

I just dialed about 7 times and finally got through. The only change was deer hunt in Travis County and my result was "Not Drawn". Darn.

I just got through. Been trying for three days! They tell you if you've been drawn or not, but does not give you the exact hunt dates that your were drawn for.

Out of the 5 or 6 categories that I applied for, I got drawn again for Anterless/Spike at Gus Engeling, and Gun Deer Either Sex at White Oak Creek. The majority of the others have not been drawn yet.

How did everyone fare?

Try the 512.389.8221 number. I can usually get in after 5-6 tries.

Finally got through. 0-2. Guess I can't be too disappointed, as this was my first year to enter. I just wonder what the average number of preference points are for certain categories.

Along with other things, the TPWD's Preference Point system is DEFUNCT! It does not work like other states and is not used. It's only there to make you feel good.

Hey Fowl,

Please expand on that preference point item. What makes it not work? This was my second year to enter and so far no draws but what makes the points worthless?

Sure Jake. The answer is that they simply do not use it.

I've been drawn in several categories before where it was my 1st year to apply in that category. And I also know folks that have 5+ "preference points" in the same categories that have never been drawn.

As a result, the good news is that anybody can get drawn in any given year. It's like drawing names out of a hat. Everyone has the same odds.

Well, I imagine just because you don't have any pref. points it doesn't mean you won't get drawn. I think the only way to look at it is from a macro view. You'd have to see how many points all the winners had. Most of the winners should have a high number of pref points. In theory, of course.

The preference point system does give you a tiny edge. If you have 3 preference points for a category, you get your name in the hat 4 times, 1 for this year and 3 times for the preference points. At least that's the way I understand it. Still a good deal.

No luck for me yet:(
I still have a couple of hunts that haven't been drawn so maybe I'll luck out on one of those.

most are 3 dollars per application. There is a permit fee of either $75 or $125 if you are drawn, depending on the length of hunt you are drawn for.
