Before posting this I did some searching and I see plenty of posts on snake boots, but my question is to those that have used them, do you prefer snake boots or snake chaps?

Long story short, I'm about to start cleaning up some heavily overgrown trails on an 80 acre piece of property. I've been told that snakes are common to see on this property and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I've never worn either so what's going to be more comfortable, last longer, and offer more protection?

Chaps are hot and heavy but provided you wear good leather boots they provide more protection at and above the knee.

Any idea if most snake bites occur above or below the knee?

Actually most occur on hands and forearms.

I like the leggings only because I can take them off in deer blind if day gets hot

How about Snake Guardz? They can be removed easily.

I have owned two pairs of chaps. Wore both pairs one time and then bought my first pair of snake boots. Chaps are out of this world HOT!!!!!!! I do think they provide more protection but if you get bit above the knee while wearing snake boots then it was just ment to be a bad day for you to begin with.

When I am in the field I wear snake boots 90% of the time. About the only time I dont wear them is when there is snow on the ground or its really cold.

A good pair of snake boots runs about the same price as a good pair of regular hunting boots. No excuse not to own a pair.

I just got back from Cabela's with some new boots and snake guards.

I have a heck of a time getting my snake boots on and if it weren't for my book jack, they'd still be on.

The sales associate had been a snake handler & has had many strikes deflected by the snake guards. He said he preferred them over the boots because of more freedom of movement.

Just for what it's worth.

I say chaps/gaiters. I have had snake boots, they are good, but sometimes it gets cold. Chaps/gaiters with insulated boots i think would be a win-win

But if it's cold enough to need insulated boots wouldn't the snakes not be an issue then?

I said at times it got cold. The insulation works when cold but doesn't make it hot either, IME

He's young and lacks experience. But I killed a 3' rattler on November 17th last year and it never got over 57 degrees that day.

Boots...and Justin makes a great pair that are comfortable and not overly hot compared to the Rocky lace-ups I had, which were miserable.

I tried some snake boots on last night at Cabelas and it's a different feeling having boots pretty much come up to the knee.
