Does anyone know for sure whether or not adult quail eat harvester ants. Met with a wildlife biologist the other day and he was about 95% sure they don't. Would be too bad if they don't because my place is covered with them.

Horny Toads do but not sure about quail. I have a good amount of quail and ants so I will have to put a TC cam on them after I get a hatch this summer to find out.

You're lucky to have them.

Harvester ants are native and good to have around. They also feed horned lizards. Fire ants are the bad guys.

Yeah, if you like completely grass-free 10 foot circles in your pasture they're just great.

Harvester ants are one of the few natural enemies of fire ants.

I saw a horned toad a couple days ago, the first I have seen in five years. i spend a lot of times out and about looking at everything. Was glad I saw it and hope to see more. i also saw three crows fighting as they flew...odd these creatures are.
