I'm looking into an XLR 250 (green light). Most of my hunting will be done form 25-100yds and I just want to know I'm making the right choice! What do y'all think?

I have the XLR 250 in green and red. The green is really bright in my opinion it is to bright for anything less than 50yds.

I use the XLR 250, or its twin brother with another name. I have a couple of them in red and I'm really pleased. Coons, rabbits, and squirrels don't seem to notice the light at all. Deer notice it, but don't get too jumpy. I can't speak for the hogs, since I haven't tried it on them yet. As for range, I've tried it to 135 yards, and could see great through the scope. I don't yet know what max range is.
Prior to getting these lights, I had a light from Primos that was big and bulky and had a separate battery. You can have it for free if you'll drive over to get it.

XLR 250 in green...works for all animals that I have used it with. Up to 150 yards, but that could be my bad eyesight too.

Just go to Lightmalls.com and buy it directly from the source. All of them are made in China anyway so why not cut out the middleman. I put together a kit just like the XLR for about $40-$50.

I don't have an opinion on the gun mounted lights, but as a feeder/stationary light manufacturer, I would highly recommend buying from someone in the state, or at the least...in the USA. The reason I say that is because with locally purchased lights, the "service after the sell" could be worth more to you than the cost of the light itself. With lights bought offshore, the postage alone would cost more than the light or any parts you may order for either service or upgrade. Also, that doesn't take into account the possible time lost when ordering from overseas. The 250 and VRL model lights have been around for a few years and are all field proven, and I have heard great things about their customer service. I've never seen or used a Big Pig Light, but I am sure stxhunter could fill you in. Well, that's my 2-cents. Best of luck to you.

I agree with this statement. Can't tell a difference between this light and my much more expensive Kill Light.
Gun's don't kill people. The Government does.
I killed eight gophers last year and a purebred Tennessee walking horse that was looking at me funny.

With what I have read from y'all I may get the VRL-1 now... Thanks for the input and help! Just a note... The VRL-1 compares more to the XLR 100. It only produces 230 lumens. The XLR 250 has 900 lumens. It does make a big difference as to how well you can illuminate at longer distances.

I bought some of the Chinese lights, but never found a 900 lumen light for anywhere near that price on any of those websites. In that price range I generally find 100-200 lumen lights. Do you have a link for a 900 lumen light at that price?

Sorry, but I have to call ???? on that. I own and use the XLR-250, VRL-1, and Wicked Light 400. You can't tell a bit of difference between them at night in the field. The difference is in what they come with, the LED's used, and customer service.

Also, that doesn't take into account the possible time lost when ordering from overseas. Though I do agree with a lot of what you said. Buy from an American supplier, service after the sell and all....there is a system in place in which the postage from China is very cheap and even free on a lot of the purchases. I think the problem is communications, getting replacement parts and/or repairs in a timely manner. You just end up throwing it away and getting another one... My experience has been that the purchase alone took 6 - 10 weeks for delivery....and from what others have said, that is pretty common.

However, customer service and what they come with really doesn't make a difference as to how well one see's with these lights. The LED's do though. The brighter they are, the better you will see. That said, I can agree that the average hunter making the average short shot at night will not notice all that much difference. I can tell you that in my experience, their is a heck of a difference in my 200 lumen light (similar to the VRL-1) and the XLR 250 when used at a distance.

I do hunt quite a bit at night. I was out Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night this week. There is a point I'd like to make with all of these lights. I also have night vision equipment. If you just purchase one of these lights and do not have good feeder lights and/or a night vision monocular or binoculars you will have no way to know what is out there. In fact, I think you'll be wasting your time in many cases. A good feeder light is a start, but I wouldn't take for the ability to scan an area with night vision in addition to feeder lights. It makes a huge difference. Thermal adds yet another higher level, but is out of reach for most folks.

I think this is the light I bought but I'm at work and can't tell for certain. http://www.lightmalls.com/uniquefire-hs-802-cree-green-light-long-range-led-flashlight-1-18650I also have a handful of the Ultrafire 501B lights for my truck and hunting bags and stuff and they are great for walking to the stand and mounting on my bow. They will light up to about 100 yds very well and through a scope I can see out to 100. The Elusive Wildlife Technologies Guy's told me at the Hunters Extravaganza that what makes their's so much better is the reflector they use. Well I held my $26 one up against my buddy's XLR and can't tell a lick of difference. They also couldn't tell me how many lumens their's were and the Chinese websites all misrepresent actual lumen output anyway. So before you buy one read the comments from users below the item and there is usually somebody that tests them and posts actual lumen output. Also, spend a little extra on a charger. The one I got hangs on the wall outlet and the springs holding the battery gets warm and then sags so the battery doesn't make contact with the top connectors. But it was like $2-$4 so what should I expect.

But for the price, what the heck? Duct tape it on.

I'm thinking my eye balls aren't programmed for using the green lights. I sure don't like them and find them aggravating to see with. May have something to do with being a little color blind in some areas, don't know.

@dfwroadkill I'm not denying the fact that the XLR 250 produces "900 lumen" I'm just not able to find any source relaying that information

I would like to know also. This is the data I have seen?
Lumen Ratings for XLR 250 Kill Light:
White LED = 360 lumens Red LED = 270 Lumens Blue LED = 210 Lumens Green LED = 260 Lumens
This is the maximum lumens, so if you have the new 3-mode, this is the lumen output on the highest setting.
