Do any of you guys subscribe to using snares for hogs? If so please advise pros and cons vs ordinary hog traps. I have a heck of a hog problem and square traps, round traps are working at their max capacity, I just need another avenue to add to my arsenal.
And if you don't mind, ad your preferred manufacturer and or how to DIY.
Thank you in advance fellas.

Snares work well you will need a deer stop on them.... But snares don't last long break off or cable gets twisted up... Make sure you have a swivel on them also and a good anchor... I have them break with big pigs....

Thank you predator solution, but it says it is currently on back order. Are these meant to catch leg or snout or....?
Thank you

They are another tool we have to help control pigs. Read all you can and talk to folks like you are doing.
Don't make the mistake of anchoring to a fence post like my neighbor did...LOL!! He got lucky the first time or two and caught small pigs. Then he snared one over 220 pounds and it took about 75 yards of his fence down before he could shoot it.

Whatever you do set the snare loop small enough that you will catch them by the snout.... they will be sitting down waiting on you....

I was thinking if caught by the snout they would possibly be easier to hobble. However, there are some pretty cool leg traps out there, I just can't figure out how to load them into the trailer once a leg is caught. Any advice or videos out there?

If keeping them alive we let the dog grab him, then throw/tie him like any other.

We have caught 10 on snares. Three are still running around with a new neckalce!
We looked up the video on youtube to make a locking snare w a washer and have had ok sucess when they are in the area of the snares. Before the rains came maybe one every week or so spread over 12 snares. Now the pigs are moving off established trails to smaller watering holes.

I've never been a fan of snares. I've seen too many deer/fawns dead in them to justify trying to control coyotes or hogs that way.

I've seen them in traps but you can let them out of the trap and we only set traps when we are there so they get checked daily. The snares I've seen are left up all the time and although effective, are non selective as well.

I like to set snares while I hunt to grab a shoat or two as they scatter after a shot. Usually they come up empty but when they do grab one the sow will usually come right back.

I've never been a fan of snares. I've seen too many deer/fawns dead in them to justify trying to control coyotes or hogs that way. We just kicked the trapper off the ranch, he was told not to use snares, we were specific about yotes only if possible. Found a Javalina in a snare thursday, he's out of here!
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I use a spring snare set up with a trigger stick that sets off snare when pig roots the stick out of the way... 0 deer, 6 pigs... simple to do, but hard to explain really
small tree about 3" in diameter, cut it off about 10 or 12 foot tall, trim all limbs off it, bend tree down and tie to trigger stick, lay snare flat on ground tied to the tree as well, when they root stick out from under hooks holding it down to get to corn, tree springs up closing the snare.. got 1 by the neck, 3 by the foot and 2 by the tip of the snooter, the tree bends around and flexes and that seems to prevent breaking snare, build the snares myself as well

Rackjudge, if you catch a hog that you're skeered of, you can always shoot him till he calms down...
