First year to have an ATV at the lease. My question is do yall pack the ATV back and forth every trip or do you leave it at the lease and hope no one takes it.

Pack it up and take it with me. I even take the key out at night.
If you leave it, there is a good chance it will leave you.

Insurance is $100-135 a year, get you some. I say leave it, chain it up. Put some moth balls etc on it to keep the rats out

I've known several camps in the area where I hunt in East Texas to get hit by thieves, sometimes more than once. And they'll take anything they can get, including large appliances. A large enough set of bolt cutters will free up practically any ATV.

I have a rhino I leave out at the lease, I take the key. The ranch hand live about 150 yards from the camp house and I have insurance on it. When you get the insurance make sure you tell them it's going to be left at the lease. If not they can might no pay the claim if it is stolen.

I pack it up everytime I go to and from the lease, and that is even with it insured.

Make sure you don't buy a hot atv. A guy on my lease bought one from his Uncle and it was stolen. He had no idea that his uncle bought a hot one 4 years ago. Got pulled over by the GW and he ran the numbers on it and 12 hrs later with a fax from his wife showing he bought it from his uncle he was able to leave the local police dept. He didn't get in trouble but his uncle had to answer a few questions.

Nothing to be paranoid about if its legal. Get the title before you buy used. If they say they don't have one call on them. If they can't find it get the number and call the police station and have them run the numbers. They will tell you if it's hot. But be careful if its hot they are going to ask where you got the number and want to know how to contact the person. In the past I had the chance to buy a atv and a 2002 camper for $1500 when no title could be produced I asked for the numbers and they guy all of sudden had it on his lease in S Texas

I leave mine under a camo cover on the land. It's back in the brush but I don't feel all that secure about it. One of mine was stolen and recovered. I learned to ALWAYS remove the key. I also bought insurance.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

That's more of what I was referring to. We have been leaving ours with the key in it. That's gonna stop.

Interesting reading. The post about thefts in East Texas caught my attention.
Last year Wulf Distributors in Athens had a number of new ATVs stolen one night and IIRC within a week or so the same thing happened again.
To my knowledge, they were never recovered.
There must be a pretty good market for stolen ATVs and they have to come from some place...So, it seems smart to do everything already suggested above to keep them safe and secure.

I got what you need. A big ole safe box. Not trying to spam but I sell these to a lot of hunters. They are very safe to lock and leave. Shoot me a pm if you want to talk about one. You will need a torch to get in.

We have left ours for short time but generally haul back and forth. I do feel we are in a pretty safe areas and have never had a problem with theft. Couple years ago brother-in-law left his literally overnight and the rats and filed mice did a number on his electrical system....

Theft is not the only concern, fellas. This was my brand new Honda Rancher. A controlled burn got out of hand on the neighboring ranch....and here is the result. I was sick! Yes, it was insured. Thank the good Lord for Germania Insurance - they did me right! Take it from me - take your ATV home with you EVERY weekend.

From my understanding the person that does the controlled burn has to pay for all damages if it gets out of hand. You should check up on that you might be able to get some of your money back

I think you may be right, klepdo.
However, I just left everything up to Germania. I gave them the ranchers name, address and phone number - as well as the number to the San Saba VFD.
All I know is I received a check for almost the full purchase price within a week!! I can't complain.

We are considering getting a 40' container that is weather proof and rodent proof to leave stuff in. Nothing stops theft but it might slow them down.

We have several of these in Laredo. They are great to store just about anything in!
