I have shot many different handguns, but am trying to decide on my first one to buy. I like the feel of the XD, probably in a .45. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Olen

I have shot the XD in a 9mm. It was my buddies, and I want to go a little bit bigger. I would like a little more power.
Thanks, Olen

No other suggestions? I know the XD is pretty cheap, but I haven't had any bad reviews yet. Anybody have problems with this gun?
Thanks, Olen

I like the S&W M&P 's myself..i have one in 45acp as well as a couple in 357 Sig....Glock is okay ...others like the XD's...it really depends on what you intend to do with the pistol for what caliber you'll want....

I'd look into a Leo trade in glock 17 or 21 can usually find them in good shape at a good price
If you really like the xd I'd look into the xdm line

Well my first preference is an XD. But I am wanting to get the way for my money. I like customer reviews and I figured the best place to find them was on here. If I had the money I would be getting a Sig, but that isn't an option.
Thanks, Olen

Get a Sig 2022 in 9mm or .40. Or a used sig. If you are patient you can usually find a police surplus p226, p228, or p6 for under $500. I am a fan of inexpensive sigs!

You have to like what you get. If I suggested 9 it would be because in normal times it is the easiest to find and cheaper. I understand power, I like .45's and reload so I can afford to shoot them. If you like Sigs look at used. I picked up a 226 cheap. Finish was toast, but some Gun-Kote has it looking new. Not many guns out there worn out. Most are handled way more than shot. Refinish and new grips make them look like new. Remember, we all started with one gun. Your first doesn't need to be your only or last.

Yes sir I agree. It will not be my only or last... Just a first. That's why I was looking at an XD. Figured it was cheap and a good FIRST. But looking at everyone's considerations I am not so sure right now. I am sure I want something though!
Thanks, Olen

If the XD feels good in your hand, buy one. If you have an opportunity to fire an M & P in .45, please do so.
These pistols blow me away and make me a better shooter than I truly am.
Best of luck with your search.

I personally don't like the feel of the XDs but again, that's all personal preference. I'd save up a little more and look for a used Sig. You can get a used Sig for exact same price as the XD and have a much better quality gun IMO. I'm a Sig P229 guy myself, but also have a 226. Those and H&K's are my top picks.

My favorite handguns of all I have owned and shot have to be the CZ75 and PO1. Awesome guns and I have seen them used as low as $400.

FWIW - 20 years ago I opted for the 40 cal platform. Now with a little arthritis in my hands I wish I had 9 mm.

Someone else mentioned Glock police trade-ins. There are some very good deals on Glock 17's out there. My police trade-in, second generation G17 has turned out to be a favorite amongst many guests whom I take shooting at the range. They love it. It shoots great, easy to handle, and durable.
Some folks don't like the grip of Glocks -- I understand that. But give them a try.
And FWIW 9mm is the second choice of mine for a beginner's handgun. I almost always start people on a .22. Not so much because of recoil but because of ammo availability/price/fun factor. After that I steer people to either 9mm or .45 ACP depending on budget and their acceptance of the 1911 platform.

I have a XD 40 and it is my favorite. The grip fits my hand perfect, shoots like a dream, and has never malfunctioned. It all comes down to what fits you. All the guns mentioned above are quality but if it doesnt fit you then it is not good. I have wanted a Glock for a long time but they do not fit me. I would not hesitate on the XD or XDM. I also have a Sig and still like the feel of the XD the best.

I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect. Some people live an entire lifetime & wonder if they ever made a difference in the world, a veteran doesn't have that problem. Reagan

I like Sigs,Glocks, and M&P's in 40cal; Then buy the 357sig and 9mm conversion barrels and have three handguns in one.
