Howa makes a fine firearm. I have several and they are great shooters, but I would go with a bigger caliber if I was you. I have killed a few with a 22-250 but you have to make a perfect shot and usually a neck shot at that. I would look at a 25-06, 270 something that will put them down easier. just my

Very capable caliber in the right hands, but you may be better served with 243, 25-06or 7-08

Would a 308 be to big of a cal for the white tail? I don't want to blow a hole in the deer you know.

I have the exact rifle... 22-250 would be just fine....the axiom would be also if you were plannin on hunting from a blind only...its heavy...the houge would be a more fit for hunting....but if you dnt mind toating it around its a great shooting gun

Any one know what the rate of twist is on the Howa? I want a 22-250 but I want to shoot as heavy a bullet as I can, maybe a 70-80 gr. Those of you that have shot the Howa and reload, what is the heaviest bullet you shoot? What kind of accuracy does the Howa have with the heavy bullets you have shot?

I HAVE A 30-06 Howa in the Hogue stock, shoot 180 grains out of it and it shoots great. I didn't get to shoot anything this year with it as we were hunting for my son's first deer with a .243 (savage, great gun too). I don't know the twist rate on my Howa though.

DLALLDER, the heaviest bullet I can shoot in my 220 is the 63 gr Sierra SMP, and I'm pretty sure that's the best you'll be able to do with your 22-250. If you want to stabilize the heavier bullets, you might get by with a 1 in 10 twist, but more likely you'll need a 1 in 9 twist. The info I'm sharing is from a good article in a shooting mag that compared what a Savage (I forget the model number) would do in the two twist rates offered in that rifle, which were 1 in 12 and 1 in 9.

A fish/ski boat is a pretty sorry fishing boat! Is there another reason that you like the 22-250? If not, I would recommend 270 or 308.
