Are there any places in NTX where a friend can hunt on public land? I have a lease, but my buddy doesn't want to travel that far...

Yes. Have you checked out the Texas Parks and Wildlife website?

there are plenty around, but quality is another story

It's not skybusting, if you make the shot.

Last Friday I checked out the 1,600 acre place NW of Cooper and saw two birds. We covered probably 75% of the area and just didn't see anything.

I hunted on a lease in the Nevada / Josephine area opening day that was right next to a public place. The public place I suppose had some birds because that is the most gunfire that I have ever heard in my life----thousands and thousands of rounds fired. When we left we saw probably hundreds of vehicles as well.

I would rather spend the extra money on a day lease. You either have too many hunters or no birds.

I'm on that same lease (hunted on the north side) and could hear the war zone to the south. I've never heard anything like that in my life except for that infamous youtube video of the guy scared out of his mind. I think its pretty shot out already, which is what I've always heard about public. I went back out to my spot yesterday and decided to scout around a bit afterwards. There wasn't any shooting going on but there were 5 trucks - and that was prettty late in the morning.

I just hope that adjacent public hunting zoo doesn't screw up our leased land...

I guess you should have looked at the other 25%. We had four easy limits by 8 am out there.
