If hogs are such a problem in Texas, why does everyone charge for people to come hunt them.... I mean if you are having a problem wouldn't you be ok with people coming to take care of it for you? To me if I am having a problem in my house with bugs, I would pay someone to come out and get rid of them for me right? Maybe there is something im not understanding about it.

Before moving to Texas. I was down visiting the mother in law. Instead of going out and trying to kill a hog. I took the safe way. I paid 100 bucks and went on a guided hunt. Now I had a little knowledge of the animal. I hunt them solo now.

Why do people charge?
Because people will pay it.
Also, would you just let any joe blow on your land with a rifle?

The people charging generally are not the people complaining, but even if they were, why should they not be allowed to make $? Just because you have been given lemons does not mean you should have to give away lemonade.
After dealing with a variety of yahoos, there isn't any way in hell I would let strangers run willy nilly on my property with firearms, bows, or dogs.

All three of the properties I hunt now have cattle. It does make hunting a little harder I only use archery equipment (crossbow) I do a head count when I enter and exit. I plan my hunt when I find where cattle is hanging. I have had people ask why not just take a gun and shoot every hog you see. The only prob with that is bullets travel on the other side of hog. So I do agree with those that say they don't want yahoo's running around on there property

people charging to hunt typically manage the land and run feeders and water. $100 per hunt on a small ranch seems to be break even for a lot of guys looking to absorb some of the cost of their lease. If they run enough hunts they get their lease for "free". Corn is $8-$9 per 40 lbs these days and a feeder can dump up to 200 lbs in a couple weeks.
