Yep,,, Its a leupy all right. ya can tell by the price.  $150. for a flashlight!!!! I think I'll stick with my Surefire G2, that I thought I paid to much for, untill I got one.

If there has ever been a product that offered poor value, these expensive flashlights are near the top. Now before you go jumping out of your seat, allow me to explain myself.
While it's true these $100 (or more) flashlights provide a very bright light, it's a very small amount of light when compared to other, much less expensive light sources. For example, 60 lumens may sound like a lot of light. But did you realize a standard 100 watt lightbulb ($3) produces more than ten times that amount of light. Granted, you can't carry a 100 watt lightbulb anywhere you go. However, there are much less expensive flashlights that outperform even the most expensive LED flashlight. It's really no different than comparing the guy who has a Rolex from another who carries a $20 Timex. It's still 3 o'clock no matter which one your read at the time. And the amount of light being produced by any source is no different.
So if you still feel you've got to have one of the fancy flashlights made from machined aluminum, I suggest picking up one of those two-pack jobs that you can find at Sam's for about $40 made by a company called Element. They're some of the brightest LED lights that you'll find anywhere, and they don't cost much more than a box of shells.

The Leupold MX-121 has a Xenon Bulb @ 60 to 80 lumens of output.

Dude I went to sams two years ago about a three pack of led flashlites for like 35 bucks. They work great in the dark!

I apologize for appearing so hard you guy. My point is that these lights appear very bight because they emit a good bit of light from a very small point. However, it's still a very small amount of light when compared in a more general sense. A lumen is a lumen, no matter the source. And it takes the same amount of lumens to illuminate a given area, no matter what you're using as a source.
No question the machine-made quality of these lights is excellent. However, just like the Rolex, that doesn't ensure performance the exceeds similar products that do the same thing, such as telling you the current time. In fact, a $20 quartz watch is probably much more accurate than the mechanical Rolex. Granted, the Rolex and $150 flashlight are truly "showcase" items. As with anything, it just depends on what the buyer values most, cost or efficiency.

dealextreme.com comes from HongKong but you will not find brighter lights for the money! i have bought 2 so far and will order some others later on.

Maglite 2 c flashlight at homedepot $15 , switch out the bulb to the upgrade for $4 and for about $20 you have a nice very bright adjustable beam light. You can also bash people over the head if need be

Here's something else to consider.
You can purchase a Surefire Model M6 High Intensity Light from Cabelas for $398.99 and get a whopping 500 lumens. Or, you can turn to the next page and get a rechargeable spotlight for $64.99 that produces five times (2500 lumens) as much light output.
I guess it's the use of such words as "police" and "military" that justifies the $300+ difference in price. Or maybe it's a different form of black, "tactical" paint, found on the Surefire.

Well, I have a Surefire E1 that was given to me by a close friend, who is a dealer of them. I always cringed at the though of spending so much money on a flashlight. But after carrying, and using, this light for the last three years, if I loose it, I'll be buying another the next day. I use mine at work (A/C technician-crawling around in attics and such), as well as hunting and night fishing.
I've read all of the arguments from both sides of the coin. But the fact is, it's the brightest flashlight I've ever seen that comes in that small of a package. I carry the light itself, one extra bulb, one extra battery (four when Elk Hunting), and a back-up AA maglight (just in case)...and it still doesn't come close to the weight of a "c" or "d" cell maglight.
Oh, BTW, to those of you getting technical...the reflector in a flashlight makes all the difference in the world too. Not just the volts and bulb size. I think that's where at least some of the difference is between cheap lights and high end lights. JMHO
And another thing...That Leupold light above looks suspiciously like a Surefire light. I wonder who actually makes it. I seriously doubt Leupold has a factory that builds flashlights. Things that make you say, HMM?

I have the sure fire G-3, and a 2 million candle power spot light. Yes the spot light is a little brighter, but when I am crawling through brush at night with my .357, that sure fire is worth its weight in gold. The spot light is more of a pain in the arse, and doesn't last long enough to do any good. I can upgrade the bulb in my G-3 and probably be just as bright as the spot light with the same batter life. All that in a flashlight I can stick in my pocket and forget about.

klepdo - do a search for q5 when you get in the website. these are some of the best leds out there. i bought the 18650 rechargeable battery kind along w/ the charger. i bought 2 flashlights, 10 rechargeable batteries and 3 chargers for $100 shipped. both of my lights are over 230 lumens. i bought the aurora wf-800 q5 (which is an incredible spot light) and the trustfire tr801 q5. my maglite 3watt led does not even come close.

no comparison imo - the stinger is only a little over 100 lumens plus it uses up batteries pretty quick. plus leds have longer run time. i love flashlights and am very glad i found that place.

Found a Leatherman monarch 500 today at Costco, led that runs on 3aaa's and claims 140 lumen and is $30
It it a stainless flashlight, I think I might try it for that price.

I bought some flaslights on clearance at walmart a couple weeks ago for $9ea. 1 was similar to maglite but was made by brinkmann it had a 3 watt led, not sure of the lumens but it was alot brighter than my regular maglite. The other was a smaller 1 watt led light it was also pretty bright. Both were regularly priced higher than the maglite. The maglite may not be as bright, but you can focus it, could be that the light is more white with an led.

I now prefer the $1.98 old fashioned flash lights from Wallyworld - because I can misplace it just as easy as my $100 streamlight I have now been looking for since last Thanksgiving weekend. If anyone sees a beam shining in the sky up in Collingsworth County, let me know it is probably my $100 flashlight.
