Thanks to JJ and Kent Outdoors for putting me on my first Turkey of the year. Great shot. What JJ calls a 2 year old would only be one this spring. Bird hatched last spring. Down here we call those Jakes.

Great shot. What JJ calls a 2 year old would only be one this spring. Bird hatched last spring. Down here we call those Jakes. we never called it a Tom, but I think you are right about the age. 4+ inch beard would indicate 1 year old. I didn't realize 2 year olds already had a 8-9" beard.

Yes def jake, beard may not always be a true indicator but fan and spurs don't lie. Especially when they all say the same thing. Congrats tho looks like yal had a great time!

I went out Sunday morning with JJ. We put one down by 0830 hours at 5-8 yards. I was back home by 1130! Love it. The bird had a 6" beard. Nothing but good things to say about that hunt with J.J.! If I knew what I was doing I would post a pic, but VHS still blinks 12. Hopefully JJ will post one for me. Had a great time. He also had lots of hogs in the area. Thinking about going to get one of those.
