This will be my third year traveling out of State with the Vizsla. My intent is to mostly go to new places each year on an extended hunting trip. Mostly on public land. This year is to Colorado. The Upland bird hunted on this years trip will include up to 4 kinds of Grouse as well as some bonus migratory birds. Leaving in less than a week.

But if I were to go to one state to hunt every year, it would be Kansas Pheasant and I just might get a short trip in for them later this year.

You thinking about going out of state this year blanked?

Mostly. Iowa for deer and pheasant. I'm thinking about other states and going back to Canada but when is up in the air.

Spent the better part of my hunting 'career' going to Mexico for 13+ yrs but it is way too commercialized (not like when I began hunting there in the 80s when there was still virgin territory) AND is too dangerous due to the drug cartels visible in the border towns.

New Zealand is on my list for stag someday. Those animals look like they are on steroids and I'd have to make sure I had the ceiling height and a wide enough entrance into a home BEFORE I went. I have known of a couple of people that did not take into consideration HOW they were going to get their elk mounts IN the house before they even went hunting and the cost to take out a wall....well suffice it to say, they could have gone on 2 elk hunts or a mini-safari.

I will also revisit Africa within 3 years so now because of this thread, I think I ought to make out my 5, 10, & 15yr hunting plan

I have up to 2 1/2 weeks set aside for a road trip. I have a beginning destination near the New Mexico Border and an ending Destination near the Wyoming Border. Where I light in between, I will know when I get there. Just looking for that spot of time.

I grew up in Kansas and go back several times each year to go hunting, both deer and pheasant. I assume by WMA hunts in Kansas you are talking about the public hunting lands. Not sure where you are looking at going, but some of the public lands can have some good pheasant hunting. Just best to avoid opening weekend and the 10 days of deer rifle season so you can have some land to yourself.

Another thing to look at if wanting to hunt in Kansas is the Walk in Hunting Areas. These are private lands that the state leases so the public can hunt on them. The state publishes a booklet every fall that shows the lands and the animals on them. These get hit pretty hard the major weekends as well, but opens up a lot of land to hunt.

One last thing, is that up there it isn't like here in Texas. If you get out and knock on a few doors out in the county, you are likely to get permission to hunt birds on a some places. Always best to not go up to the door dressed in full hunting garb and just be polite.

If you get serious about going up there, feel free to ask any more questions and I will do by best to answer them.
