http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=335953177"I'm selling my Palmetto State Armory 5.45 upper. I've grown attached to it over the last 6 month, it's been a real good friend to me. I've gotten tons of use out of it - a paperweight, a door stopper, a nut cracker. I'm sure it would be just as useful to you too. I bought it on a special from Palmetto State Armory, and let me tell you, it has been special. Like, shortbus "special". I've tested with both surplus 5.45 and commercial, and it has been perfectly reliable. And by reliable, I mean that the bullets reliably come out of the barrel, see the target and say... "Nu-uh. No way. I'm going in this totally opposite direction." The thing is, they are traveling so fast, they don't really have time to make it all the way....they mostly just turn sideways. The holes in the target are quite remarkable. I certainly wouldn't want to get hit by a bullet traveling sideways, would you? Well, I mostly don't want to get hit by any bullet, but the point remains. See how special it is? But wait, there is more! Not only do you get super-lethal sideways traveling bullets, but you also get the dreaded "shotgun pattern" accuracy. It's like you're getting 2 guns for the price of one. Like Joe Biden says - just aim it out the door and pull the trigger. You don't have to aim, because it's not going to help. Well, I guess if you jammed it into your target it may hit it, but at that point - who needs aiming? So, super-lethal and no-aim required upper. That's got to be worth many, many hundreds of dollars. I bought it for a tad less than $300, but I figure it's worth at least three times that. I did approach PSA and ask them whether they wanted to take this wonderful example of their engineering back, but they refused. They said (and I quote) "The barrel is not defective, it is as it was advertised." I think I missed the advertisement for the extra-special features of this upper, but hey...they know better, right. So don't be saying this fine upper is defective, it's just the way it's supposed to be - no charging handle, no bolt carrier group, no way it's hitting anything further than 20 feet. "

Except it's not meant to tumble until it actually hits anything that provides resistance.
It's PSA's fault, not the caliber's.

Great jab to Palmetto State Armory. Will make me think twice about sending business their way. Maybe they should rethink their return policy??

There are those who read of what others have done, then there are those like me who do what others read about.

Most likely the barrel is actually a 5.56 barrel with a 5.45 barrel extension.
There was a bunch of century AKs in 5.45 that had this problem and it turned out they had the wrong barrels.

When a company like Palmetto State Armory doesn't stand behind its product, it should be like them signing their death warrant. I wouldn't buy anything from them knowing that they have a "buyer beware" policy. What would it cost them to make the barrel good, even if there was question about whether or not it was their fault. Maybe they should read the warranty info from companies like Dillon. Good post from Csddarden. I wish more people would post when they have a bad experience from manufactures to give the rest of us a heads-up.

I used to buy a lot from PSA but I have had nothing but problems with them lately. They have sent me the wrong item, sent me somebody else's order, sent me orders missing items and later told me it's not in stock and cancelled the order even though the website shows it in stock. On my last order they sent me a bolt carrier that had a misaligned gas key. I called them about it and they asked me to send them an e-mail so a tech could call me. That was 3 weeks ago and I have heard nothing.

The barrel has the wrong twist. I think the barrel is 1:10 or slower, and the ammo likes 1:8 or so.

Thanks for the good laugh. I was just considering ordering a new upper. I built a nice lower last summer, but found a DPMS upper so cheap I couldn't pass it up. Now I would like to dedicate the DPMS to the 22lr kit and get something nicer.
I was considering Rguns until a post yesterday and then PSA until this post today. I think I'll just build my own.
