Ok guys I'm in the market for an over/under and I have come across 2 good deals and can't decide on which one to get so I need some advice. Here are the 2 guns:

One is a used but well cared for Beretta S687 Sporting with 30" barrels. It's a mid 90's made gun and the current owner said he has shot a couple hundred rounds through it but does not know the devious history on it. It's in good shape with a couple of small dings in the stock but the metal is all perfect.

The other gun is a basically brand new Browning Citori 525 Sproting with 30" ported barrels. It's super nice and the guy is giving me a heck of a deal on the gun.

My issue is the browning is $1000 more than the Beretta and I don't know if I want to or if its worth spending that much more. Will the browning really shoot better or help my sporting clay scores that much more than the beretta?? Both fit and feel great so that not the issue. I'm just trying to rationalize spending an extra grand.

Any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated.

The 2 B guns fit and swing different. Beretta tends to be light in the muzzle and swings fast.
Browning tends to be muzzle heavy and swings smooth.
I shoot Beretta semi autos and Browning O/U's.
Browning's ported barrels are loud to me. I hate their porting.

Ultimately it comes down to fit. Which guns feel better to you when shouldering and swinging through a target.

I have owned multiple Beretta O/U shotguns and switched out to buy a Browning. Now I shoot a Beretta 682 Gold E Sporting with 32" barrels and will not be switching anymore.

Shooting clays I never noticed the Browning's ported barrels being loud unless I was standing next to a guy shooting one with hot loads.

Just my 2 cents

Yep, 5-Stand or Wolfe Chase!

They both fit and point great. My thoughts are is the newer browning worth spending an extra grand on over the older beretta?

Anyone have any experience with either shotgun?

Ive been running a sporting clay 525 for several years now. it has several thousand rounds under it's belt. I bought it because it fits me like a glove. I can shoulder it and shoot snap shots very quickly. Ive killed many doves and clays with it, it wont ever leave my collection, in fact I was running her this past weekend at in El Campo at the Ducks Unlimited sporting clay benefit. The main thing, like others have stated is to shoulder them and see which one feels good in your hands.

Sure is pretty! The Browning 525 I am looking at also has one of those metal shock absorbing adjustable pads. Comes with a set of extended chokes. One owner gun shot less than 100 rounds with it.

Is $2000 a good price?

Seems like a fair enough deal, especially with the metal adjustable pad, because those o/u have just went higher and higher over the past several years. The new sporting models are running up to 3k now, with the normal citori lightning msrp of 2k. I looked online at gunbroker and gunsamerica, found one like your buying for 2k, without the metal pad. Most online are going for much more then 2k though. There is one on shotgun world for $2500, right now.

I've shot both guns and owned and do own a Browning..they are the
approximate same value depending on condition and accesories..My
buddy sold a Browning w/a Briley Tube Set, and Hard Case for $1300...It was setup as a Skeet Gun..The tube set would costs more than that now..Neither will hold up to really hard use in competition without annual maintenance..DD

Buy which ever you want. I sold my 525 after buying 686. The only thing I regret about the switch is the Browning had better wood.

I have never shot the Beretta, but I do love my 525.

The Browning will outlast the Beretta. If you don't mind footing the repair bills on the Beretta, go for it.
You get what you pay for, every time..

I have shot the same Browning 425 Sporting for the last 12 years and have probably 50,000+ rounds through it (I shot competitively for 6 years) without a single malfunction of any kind. It is still as tight as the day I got it.

Beretta makes some fine O/U's....but not at the same price point as the Brownings, in my opinion. Just as RWH24 stated....I shoot Beretta automatics and Browning Over & Unders. You basically have to spend twice the money on a Beretta O/U to get the same quality as a Browning O/U.

Also....in my opinion, the "fit" of the gun shouldn't be your determining factor for purchase. If you are serious about shotgunning/clay shooting, you really should have the gun custom fitted to you. I will take a $1,000 gun that is custom-fitted to me over a $5,000 gun that is not ANY DAY OF THE WEEK....(and as a result, I will shoot better with it).

I would love to own a Beretta DT 11....but at that price point, I would likely be looking at a Perazzi instead.

My vote goes to the Browning!! up
