Looking for some advice on an above average piece of glass to mount on a new Kimber 300 Win mag. I am more less wanting to know which manufactures to look at and which to cross off the list.
I don't get to hunt very often with my rifles as I am more of a bird hunter but I am looking to change that.
Let me know what you think.

Depends on what you want to spend. I prefer Zeiss. If you want a little nicer then go with Swarovski

Got $$$? Swaro/Zeiss/Schmidt & Bender high end models
Got $$? Leupold VX3 or their higher model/Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40
Got$? Leupold VX1 or 2/Nikon/Bushnell Elite

I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Take a look at: http://www.shepherdscopes.com/ I have 6 or 7 of their scopes including the ones for 22 lr's, several with the 24" circle, a bunch with the 18" circle, and the ones for the 22 LR's have a 9 inch circle. I think you will like the simplicity of these scopes. Just something to consider.

Most my rifles have the Leupold VX3 in 3x9 and will work well as most people need!

My walkabout .300 WM wears a 3x9 Zeiss Conquest. My Krieger-barreled heavy Coues rig is scoped with an old Burris Signature 6.5x24.
It's all about what you want to spend. Right now, I think the best bargain out there is one of Natchez's Weaver Grand Slams or Super Slams that are currently on sale. Conquest scopes are also popping up here and there at attractive prices. If you want to go the high-end Euro route, call Doug at Cameraland and see what they have in demos and close-outs.

What features are you looking for? Ranging? BDC? Lighted reticle? Magnification? F/SFP? Tube diameter?
I like Weaver SuperSlam series. The Euro/Tactical models are FFP, 30MM and IIRC are all lighted. I don't remember the tube diameter on the regular SuperSlams.
They are heavy, since the tube is one-piece construction. If you're shaving weight for a pack rifle, there might be better choices.
Had I the money, I would also look at Leica.

I'm a big fan of Zeiss, if you're trying to save a buck but get some nice glass the Conquest line is hard to beat. If your bank account has more zeros than mine the Victory or Terra lines are awesome and I've yet to shoot thru a Nightforce that I would trade my Zeiss Hensoldt for.
Just to muddy the waters I'm also a fan of a Leica I grabbed when SWFA was offering a $500 trade in credit and any used Kahles I run across at a decent price somehow finds it way into my safe.

I have a .300 WM and I toyed with this over the last three weeks. I decided to go with Leupold's VX-3. Passed on him and decided to go on this on. What are you wanting to do with it, just hunt, or maybe do some medium to long range target?

About any of the scopes that the guys rec. are great..the Niteforce is tougher and will handle more banging and large calibers..I have a 8.5X25 Mark 4 Leu. on my 308, and had a 3x10 Mark 3 on a 300 Win w/out problems..I have several Zeiss on 338 Win..no problems..but if you are shooting a really rough gun and handling it very roughly the Niteforce is what the Army has on the Armalite 338 Lapua, and the .50 cals..DD

I have a couple Vortex Vipers on my large calibers, but you should also check out Explore Optics out of Grapevine. They are a relatively new company making killer optics at super low prices. I picked up a 8X32X50 from them with a lighted reticle for less than $500! And they have a lifetime warranty. http://www.exploreoptics.com/cart01.htm
