Looking to buy a new pump shotgun. Mainly used for turkey hunting and maybe a little dove too? I'm new to both but excited. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty much all the manufactors make a decent pump shotgun. My preference is for Browning or Remington 870's (older Wingmasters), and I 've got a Mossy 500 or two in the safe. Benelli Nova's are nice as well. If you're going to use it for turkey and dove, make sure and get a barrell with exchangeable chokes. And might as well invest in a camo finish.

Benelli Nova would be my choice in pump. If you have the coin I would suggest a semi auto over a pump. When I started out I had the money but was cheap and got a pump only to have to go back and buy a semi auto months later.

One of the firearms on the list of "required to own as a citizen" is the Rem 870. I've got others but will always have the 870.

I really don't have the extra $$ for a semi, right now. Going to go this weekend and look at the Rem 870 and Benelli nova. Thanks for the input.

Older 870 or a Browning BPS. Ithaca if it was for upland game, for turkey the recoil is awful. An older winchester 1300 is a nice gun as well if you find a used one.

as everyone else has stated, it's hard to beat an old 870 Wingmaster. I know I love mine, but this cheap Mossy 500 is really starting to grow on me. Doesn't have the fluid-like action of the wingmaster, but it sure does shoulder well and it's taken up my wingmaster's spot the past two dove seasons.

Best quality pump shotgun I've ever had was a Browning BPS.
A great gun for the money. Beautiful, too.
Kind regards, charlesb

If it's mostly for hunting and you aren't interested in turning it into a scary black assault shotgun that keeps Diane Feinstein awake at night, then I would suggest an older Remington 870 Wingmaster or a Browning BPS. Either will serve you well. If not set on pump, do what I did and get a nice SxS. I picked up a mint Browning BSS that is a shooters dream. Nothing like breaking it open with smoke pouring out of the empties on a cool day. Either way, Good luck!

Winchester SXP. I like it better than the 870's for sure. If not the winchester, the browning bps, or benelli nova

I've had a Rem 870 and wish I had never traded it off. Bought my daughter one and she loves it. Have several of the Mossberg M590A1's is different configs and really like all of them. Its hard to do any damage to them, they get beat around in the 4 x 4 chasing skunks at night, and get thrown around in the pick-up and they just keep on shooting. Pretty tough pumps for under $500.

I'd go with the Nova or Supernova. I have the SN and love it. I've had it almost two years now and am problem free.

Take a look at the Mossberg Maverick that Academy carries. My son has one. Goes bang everytime, and for less than 2 bills brand new.
