What if any license(s) does my 10 year old nephew need to turkey hunt with me this weekend? He has done the safety class online, so that part is covered.

A hunting license is required of anyone, regardless of age to hunt any species in Texas.
Youth Hunting License (Type 169): $7 Valid for any person, resident or non-resident, under 17 years of age at the date of license purchase. Exempt from state stamp requirements, except for reptile and amphibian stamp. License and state stamp exemptions remain valid for the entire license year.
It is against the law to use:
•a tag taken from the license of another person or allow your tag to be used by another person. •a tag more than one time (or on more than one deer or turkey). •an incorrect tag on a deer or turkey (example: mule deer tag used on a white-tailed deer, etc.).

That is what I read as well. When my brother tried to buy one the guy at Academy said a 10 year old didn't need a license to hunt turkey. I think he may have been mistaking not needing the stamp for not needing a license.
So he needs a youth license and that is all, no upland bird stamp.

The guy at Academy was wrong. The youth license is required like Kyotee1 posted. The youth license is exempt from requiring endorsements (State Stamps)except where noted in Kyotee1's post. A valid youth license is required for hunting for any youth hunting. What if any license(s) does my 10 year old nephew need to turkey hunt with me this weekend? He has done the safety class online, so that part is covered. Has he done the class portion of the Hunters Ed class? If not he has to be within voice control distance to hunt, following the TPWD rules/regulations.

Correct! If he is 10 then he is exempt from state stamp requirements.

There are many who work at Academy, Wal-Mart, Bass Pro, Cabela's, etc. that run the license machine and will tell the purchaser wrong or incorrect information on what is needed or required to hunt, fish, trap, etc. when they should not be giving that information out in the first place, for the most part, they don't work for TPWD and know the requirements for licenses/stamps, etc. and two the above error by the Academy sales person. However, it is the purchasers responsibility to know what they require to have before going and purchasing their license and/or stamps. The information is on the TPWD website and also within the free Outdoor Annual (hunting & fishing regulations).

If he took the safety class online did he also go to the second part where they see him safely handling a firearm. He really didn't need the safety course yet if he stays within normal voice control of another hunter who has his or exempt from the safety permit.
