For lower end scopes, I think the glass is pretty decent. I have seen the BSA Panther 3x9x40 at BassPro a few years ago and it was actually quite clear. They no longer carry that model, it was $129.99 at the time. Also a cool looking "hood" design. They don't carry it any more. I have heard with a heavier bore caliber, they may not hold zero well but have no verification of that..

I saw it ion ebay for 50 bucks 3x9x40 and that's a big step up from my tasco 3x9x32. I went a head and scooped it up. I hope it works out ok.

I've had a little exposure 10 or so years ago with them and I can tell you I no longer own them and was not impressed.

Don`t mount it on anything larger than a .22. you`ll be fine.

I actually have a number of BSA scopes:
1 Sweet .22 on a Ruger 10/22 1 4x Airgun on a Weihrauch 30S 1 4x Airgun on a RWS 52 1 3-9x Airgun on a RWS 470 2 36x "Platinum" fixed target scope.
I also had a 4x Airgun scope on the RWS 52 break and end up in the trash. The two 36x scopes are **completely** different from each other. One has better glass than the other, neither are great, but I've had them for several years now, and they still work. The Sweet .22 is actually pretty nice; especially for the money.
My list follows my personal philosophy regarding cheap scopes: if you go cheap, go fixed. The 3-9x was a freebie from a reloading order from Grafs, but, much to my surprise, has yet to break.
All in all, I'm quite satisfied for the value received. That said, buy the very best glass that you can afford. It really makes a difference.

Have a decent one on my 10/22. Very little eye relief but that's fine with a .22. Wouldn't go larger caliber with a BSA.
I know glass gets expensive but its ABSOLUTELY worth the money for a good one. Best bang for your $ IMHO is a Leupold VX-R. You'll spend $500 but it'll be a lifetime optic you'll cherish.

Forgot to say...if you wanna see the difference between cheap and quality glass try looking through a scope at night. I used to be a Nikon nut before i looked through one at night. Buddy had a Swarovski Z6 and it ruined me to quality glass. Can't tell if that was a good thing or a curse.

A buddy and I use the 3x9x50 w/lighted center dot for nighttime pig hunting. Mine is on my AR and he's got them mounted on a .22-250, .30-30, and a 7mm Mag that I know of. Wouldn't use one for a once-in-a-lifetime elk hunt or a high dollar deer hunt, but they work fine for killing hogs at night with a light.

I guess I've gotten really lucky taking booners with a Simmons, Burris and Leupold scopes throughout the years.
If I went solely by the forum, I'd have to hunt either Zeiss, Swavorksi, Meopta or Leica to ever shoot anything.
No doubt, good glass is nice but there is still lots to be said about the skill and competency of the operator, IMO.

If you have young eyes probably fine I have two that are gonna have to be replaced on my .17 HMR and .22 lever action, the clarity doesnt compare to a higher end scope as I get older. Haven't admitted I need glasses yet..

For low light visibility morning and Dusk you can start hunting an hour after daylight and quit about an hour before dusk.

I had a quick detach on an AR. Even after getting it as tight as I could after 4-5 shots it would slide right off the rail. Ended up in the trash, I couldnt bring myself to even curse someone by selling it.

I have this same scope on an A-bolt 7mm. I zeroed it in four years ago and it still will drive nails. I cant even count all of the critters that have died on the other end of this scope.

I've got a couple of BSA 4 power scopes on 22 rifles. No problem with them so far, and they are very clear and sharp. I don't remember what I paid for them, but it wasn't much money, so I think I've gotten my money's worth.

You are better off looking down a barrel with sights than waste your money on that junk

I have a BSA tactical on my AR. Does a great job. Keep in mind though, a scope on a tactical set up has a possible short life in a shtf situation. Any gun I have now, is equiped with sights. This after steping in a gopher hole and ruining my zero for that hunt. Now I All ways have backup sights. I don't have allot of money, but I had a cheap $200 Luepold on my 30-06 and it was definatly a much better scope. Especially at low light. On a hunting rifle, get the best quality you can afford. You may never need another scope.

I bought the Sweet 22 for my marlin lever. piece of crap glass is decent considering I'm never shooting far, however the scope always seems to get bumped out of zero. was hard to sight in. went back to my 3x-9x bushnell that was made in the 80's works much better
