Any real clarical confirmation about the increased ammo purchase by DHS? Or is it an old wife's tale?

J-Conn, I have seen several different news sites reporting on it and congress has begun an inquiry on it. DHS did not confirm it, but refused to discuss it with congress.

Thanks for the post! So from what I understand that DHS hasn't bought it all up. In fact, they've purchased less in 2012 than in 2010. Sounds like Wall Street speculators influencing domestic oil prices. Panic panic panic! It's fictitious scare mongering.

No idea how many Border Patrol agents there are but that sounds like a lot of target practice.

Why would federal LEOs buy rim fire .22lr? Come on! Just like everyone else. It is the century of the replacement upper. You can throw a new slide on a Glock or Sig or a new upper on an AR and practice with .22 ammo at a fraction of the price. Wish they would leave it alone so I could get some .22 bullets too.

I assure you, Federal DHS agents don't carry or practice (on the job/range) with rim fire ammo. It simply doesn't work like that.
We're all aware of the historical small arms sales occurring in this country, from new and old, newbie to experienced gun owners alike. It's unprecedented. Conjuring these wild ideas of our own government buying the ammo, in particular rim fire ammo, to potentially turn on us is frankly, unsubstaniated and facile. We acknowledge that tyranny is no less a threat now than it was in 1776, 1876, or 1976, but we have to keep a rational head and speak/write with common sense and facts. We're always ranting and raving about the knee jerk dems legislating with emotion instead of logic and reason, then in the same breath, turn around and saber rattle about standing up to tyrannical govt because there aren't any 22lr for plinking. It perpetuates the rotten stereotype that gun owners are a fringe paranoid sect of American society and widens the gap between us and our concerns with our legislators.
If you think .22lr don't exist, check gunbroker or Craig's list posting for .22lr in April 2010 (few and far between and at a loss to the seller compared to purchased price). Now fast forward two years, you'll find literally thousands of listings at triple mark ups. That's where your plinking rim fire is, not on the shelves at a reasonable 4-6 cents a round, but on the Internet at 40 cents.
