I have found heaven! It is Babe's Chicken Dinner House. We went to the one in Garland this past Sunday and it was GREAT! By far, the best food have eaten in a long time. Here's my review: Atmosphere - 4 stars - Really liked all the funny sayings and pics on the walls. Tables are real close together and none of them match. Same goes for the chairs, none of them match as well. And any place the has deer, a hog, and a jackalope mounted deserves 4 stars. Service - 4 stars - Our waitress explained to us, since we had never been there before, how the "family style" system worked and always had a smile on her face. And, our drinks were never empty. That is a big thing for me. Food - 4+ Stars - If you've never been there...this is the way it works. When the waitress comes to your table all you order are your drinks and your meat. The meat selections consist of Fried Chicken, Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Chicken Tenders, Fried Catfish, Smoked Chicken, Pot Roast, and Hickory Smoked Ribs. The waitress then goes off and brings back a big bowl of salad with some sort of vinegar based dressing. I'm not a big salad eater so I couldn't tell you what it was. Then she come back with some of the best homemade bisquits you have ever had. They tasted just like my grandmothers recipe. After that, she brings out all the meat on one big patter. Our consisted of fried chicken and one chicken fried steak. The chicken fried steak was my wifes since she refuses to eat chicken on the bone. Anyway, along with that they gave us a big bowl each of corn, green beans, mash potatoes, and homemade brown gravy. By the way, it is all you can eat on everything but the meat. If you run out of any of the veggies just ask and they will give you another bowl at no charge. We had more than enough though. I can honestly tell you their fried chicken is the BEST I have ever had in my entire life. It came out piping hot and just had a great taste. The chicken fried steak was very good as well had was cooked like you would do at home as well. And, the gravy is exactly like my mom makes. I could go on and on about this place but I'm not. I will post their internet link and you can check it out for yourself. Babe's Chicken Dinner House

Another big vote for Mrs Allen's. Everytime I go to Mrs Allen's I make sure I have a pocket full of business cards as most times I am asked what I do and where I'm from by 5 or 10 patrons. Good food and an experience. Come hungry!
Also, its been a while but the original "Salt Lick" in Wimberly had family style BBQ to die for with a Creamery next door with great Ice Cream, plus....

Absolutely Babes is the best. I eat at the babes off of 114 about once a week. Best fried chicken ever.
I also found a great place to eat on I 30 east, I think it’s just before Green. Its the best seafood buffet I have had. All the seafood was fresh cooked just right. They had broiled and fried. They also had great cobbler and cinnamon rolls; I can’t wait to find a reason to go back. The place was called Ol'whiskers.

'Ol Whiskers used to be in Rowlett before the moved over off of I30 and Bobtown in Garland. Good catfish!!! They also have a place in Plano and one off of Greenville in Dallas.

If it is owned by the same people then I'm sure it is. I've eaten at the one in Plano, Garland, and the one off of Greenville and 635 and they all tasted the same. It has been years since I have been though.
One thing to know before you go though - It is cash only!!! No credit cards. At least that is the way it was when I went the last time.

You need to try Alice Fayes, in San Augustine , it is really great. The vegies come from the family farm , and they have really good food.

I live in Rowlett and my office is less than a mile down the road from Hubbard's. They have have a great breakfast!!! Can't say the same about the lunch and dinner. After deer seaon is over we typically go there every Sunday till it warms up. But, the main attraction is definitly the scenery.

Allen's in Sweetwater is tastey, you gotta try The Homeplace out near Tuscola. It's absolutely wonderful, they usually have fried chicken and another dish and more sides than you can handle. Take a big heap and pass to the left. Nom nom nom nom
