My 9 yr. old daughter is shooting my AR more these days, and I would be interested in getting a red-dot sight of some kind that's easier for her to use than my cumbersome 50mm. scope (if they are, in fact, easier to use), and who knows...I might like it, too.
But the choices are seemingly endless, and I don't have any idea the right quesitons to ask. I saw one that advertised a 9.0 MOA red dot. Does that mean that at 100 yds, the dot will cover a 9" round space?! Should I be looking for the little upright glass looking things or a tube, and why?
What I would like is something that puts a little, easy to see red dot over what she wants to hit without covering it up, including the earhole of a hog at 60 yds.
Would appreciate any input on something easy to use, pros & cons of red-dots, features to look for/avoid, etc.
Thanks for any help!

What's your budget? Might help guide everyone's recommendation.

Definitely need a budget here. If you want the best of the best, get an Aimpoint T1.

Eh...let's say keep it under $400.

I'm waiting on an Aimpoint PRO from Midway - hopefully should have it in a week or so. For $405 delivered, I couldn't find a better deal, and every review I found was positive. Seems to be loaded with nice features, and I like the battery life and reliability.

For your budget I would look around for a used Aimpoint Pro, C3 or a M3. They will all get good battery life compared to the older M2.
The next option would be a Eotech. Some people love them and others hate them. I had two, sold one and gave the other away. I've seen too many take a dump and prefer Aimpoints.
Red dots are easy to use, simple and still very accurate. I've use them with good results out to 400yds. The caveat is not to go cheap.

I went to buy the aimpoint pro a few months ago. They were sold out.
I ended up walking out with the Eotech xps. It was around $525. It's worked out pretty good so far, no complaints.

Most expensive red-dot I've had was a Millet I got for $75, worked fine on a slug gun for a while, then a single shot .308 My 8yr old son and I love them, once sighted in, he knows he can just put the dot on what he wants to hit. Got him started a couple of years ago with a 10/22 with a red-dot, he is a rabbit killer with that one!

Have you looked at the Bushnell TRS 25? Run it atop a medium height UTG riser & the optic will co-witness with the open sights of the AR. Should run you less than $150.00, meaning that you have an extra $250.00 in your pocket for ammo, mags, etc...

Aimpoint would be my choice. GT in Dallas has lots of them. I just got another one the other day.
