I was considering a 20 ga semi auto in either one of these brands that academy sells. Can anyone give some infromation or the experience they have had. I did not want to buy one and it be a pc of crap and should of bought the other one kinda thing. Main purpose is to bird hunt and occasional trap/skeet.
Would the synth or wood stocks make any difference.

thanks

j

I have a yildiz and so do several of my friends. They are GREAT guns for the money IMO. None of us have ever had a problem with them other than they can be very tight when new. But after about 300-400 rounds thru them they loosen up. Tri-star has been around a long time and I've heard nothing up luke warm opinions of them.

I actually shoot a Yildiz competitively for skeet and trap. I'm sitting at about 3,000 rounds through it in the last few months, and I haven't had a single problem. It's still pretty tight, and requires a little help with my hand to open.

Ejectors are selective, so you don't have an unfired shell pop out after you take one shot in the field.

It's light, which is really good for a field gun. But shoot more than a few rounds without a recoil pad and you'll feel it the next day. Other than that, it's pretty much your standard shotgun.

I have handled the yildiz guns, but hear alot of good stuff about them. I have handled several of the tristar guns and they look and feel like junk to me. Just my opinion though. Good luck.

I bought a closeout Tristar a few years ago and have used it for 3 dove seasons now without a single hitch.

I love it. Fantastic shotgun. I'd buy another one without any hesitation.

thanks for the information guys. I look forward to more input, but so far yildiz has the lead.

a buddy of mine has an older charles daily in the 20 ga auto, synth that i have been wanting, but he just cant let go of it, i even offered to put extra money in it, but still could not get him to budge. Most remingtons i have found are all 2 3/4 cham and the 3" chams are more $$$ then I am ready to let go of and i want to be able to shoot 3's also if i choose to.

then i noticed these 2 brands at academy one day and almost took one home, but thought i need to check them out first and not make a impluse buy and regreat it and get stuck with it.

The Tradition ALS 2100 is a clone to the Seretta A300. Stoeger 2000 is a Benelli clone

Well, I don't own and have never shot a Yildiz so I will say no opinion. I do own and shoot a Tri-Star Viper G2. It is a flawless shotgun so far (4 years)in dirt, mud, hot and cold. Their customer service is great, the price is right, it is a great gun for the money. The original G1 WAS a POS, but they swapped me even for the G2 and I haven't talked to them since.

I am always curious as to why those who have never fired/owned a weapon can offer up an opinion. "I heard, or, it feels cheap, or I knew a guy who knew a guy". Same with Savage rifles, Stoeger autos or a scope that doesn't come from Germany. If you have no first hand knowledge then why even offer up your worthless opine?

You are welcome to come shoot mine if you would like, it is well worth the money spent.

Yildiz 20GA has been a great O/U for the last 4 dove seasons.

I've also got a Yildiz 20g O/U. Great gun...tight at first. Only
difference between the $400 model and the $800 model is the
engraving, or so I'm told by the guy at Academy.

So you are comparing a O/U to a semi?????
Apples and oranges to me.
I've shot both.
The O/U is nice and tight and shoots well for the money.
The semi (I have in 12) is nice and tight and shoots well for the money.

These are two difference TYPES of guns. Pick the one that suits your purpose, not your pocket book you'll be happy. Assuming you can afford either.

YILDIZ
TriStar SUX!!!!!! I have both. Tristar always broke down(hammer, pin, bolt) and is now out of warranty.
The YILDIZ is perfect

i am looking at or for a 20ga semi auto.

I have a buddy that has a charles daily that is a great one, but he wont sell it to me. I cant seem to find one either. I seen the Yildiz and tri star at academy and was wondering how they were? They are inexpensive for my purpose. I had neck and back surgery and can not handle the thump from my nice old rem 870's 12 ga's any more so i thought i would go for a 20g and see how things went with it.
So far the yildiz has the lead
thanks to everyone for the info

Buy a used 1100, Browning Gold Hunter or a Beretta 390. All are excellent 20 gauge autos.

Because of the difference in the size of the guns, I don't know that you can expect much less thump from a 20 than you do from a 12 ga. That said, I prefer the looks and feel of a smaller framed gun. The twenty's are my choice for a carry gun. If I was an expert, or even a decent wingshot, I'd go even smaller.
