Anyone ever hunted here? Quail or even small game like rabbits? I just drove by it for work and it's a pretty cool area.

Packsaddle and Black kettle WMAs(just down the road) use to be good for quail. You will need a map for Black Kettle as it is broken up in patches from 160 acres to full sections. Packsaddle is one of two WMAs in Okla. that are part of a sister study with the Rolling plans project. The other is Fern Cooper, I think.

I attended a trial last fall on a large ranch adjoining the Packsaddle and the lack of good rain over the years had hurt the deer herd and the quail.

We have miles and miles of natural gas gathering lines up there and hundreds of meters for measurement. I am up there often and I have seen lots of wildlife driving around up there. It is definitely a nice area.

I wouldn't care if I only saw one bird a day and maybe killed a rabbit, it looks like an awesome place just to camp and be out with the dog.

Bring your dog boots if your dog has a soft foot. Lots of sand burrs the last time I was at Packsaddle.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Wild birds, and several cources required boots.

Black kettle may be a better choice. Its west of Cheyenne, just south of Packsaddle. Skipout lake has a camping area with water and I think port-a-potties. Depending on the water level you could do some fishing on the lake (small impoundment). Fewer sand burrs too, I have never used dog boots there. Last time I was there I kicked up three coveys in less than an hour (bout 4-5 years ago). But you need to get a map because it is not well marked and split up in many non-contiguous units. There use to be a lot of Rio Grande turkeys there also.

You'll find birds, lots of porcupines and burrs there too. Don't overlook Sandy Sanders and Black Kettle.
