Tomorrow I'm going turkey hunting. The turkeys have been there at 10:30am everyday for the last few weeks. I will be hunting by my feeder. 30 yards from it. I have my leaf and will be in brush in a hole in the ground. I should be camod in well. I'll be using my 12 guage. I have my electronic calls on my phone. I hope they will work to call them in. I have 2 hen decoys. I'll be there at about 9:00am. I know it's late but my wife and I drink coffee together every Saturday morning. Can't miss that. I'm excited as can be!!!
My question is. Most of the turkeys in the cam pics only have a 2 or 3 inch beard. Is that legal to shoot?
My plan is to set up the decoys and then sit for a while and listen for them. When should I call? Should I call right away or wait? Can the call scare them?
I'll post pics here if I get something.

Jake's are young gobblers and have small beards/spurs (might not be visible). One year old or so. Toms are full grown adult gobblers with larger beards/spurs. You can tell because they (toms/jakes) have red on their heads and darker colored than hens. Hens are more lighter brown in color. Toms also have much larger bodies.

MathMan,
Good luck today....I remember my first time when a gobbler responded to a call and then a puffed up Tom came strolling out of the woods.

Listen to the hens and copy them. Don't call to much. Their prolly coming just can take a while or you can't see them. Good luck!

I would leave the decoys in the truck. If they are coming into that 30 yard area everyday with out them then don't throw them a curveball.

Nuthin. Stayed till 1. Drove around after looking for them. The place is around 900acres. Oilfield people started to suck water out of the river so they were all over the place driving around. I guess they scared them off.
Next time I won't put out the decoys also.
It was nice though laying in the wild oats in a hole under brush. Birds landing 3 feet from my face. So peaceful. Had fun!!!
