Looking at getting a pistol and i was looking at this one can any one tell me if this is a good gun for the buy!

The Sigma has met up with mixed reviews. You first need to see if this is the enhanced version or the original 1994 version. The enhanced has a 4 inch barrel, the original a 4 1/2 inch barrel. The weapons works a lot like the Glock and Smith paid Glock an unknown sum for copyright infringment. It has a reputation for reliability. Accuracy is adequate but not superb. Criticisms of the weapon include a somewhat heavy trigger pull, potential for accidental dropping the magazine and a somewhat awkward slide stop. Supposively these small problems were corrected in the enhanced series. I don't own one but thought about getting one as car weapon. For the price I don't think you can beat it.

The version pictured is the enhanced version. Not only is it a good buy but I think I'm going to look at one myself.

they are good guns and simple to take apart the only thing wrong with them is the 8# trigger as this is smiths entry level gun they do that so new gun owners dont accidentaly shoot theirselves.

The heavy triggers can be a good thing as well. For minimally trained individuals using a double action only pistol, this can be the difference between an accidental discharge, a miss or a solid hit on an opponent. This brings up an important point. The best safety device you can have for a pistol is a good holster. For double action only weapons this is doubly so. If the weapon comes out of the the holster it should be ready to fight.

Do you guys know if you can do a trigger job on this one or do you eaven do trigger jobs to pistols, i know you do on rifles!

I don't know the answer to that question, but I suspect the cost to do so would be prohibitive. You probably should just ahead and buy the Glock if you wanted to add a trigger job.

spend the $100 more and get a Glock or XD. i had a sigma and unless i really need $ it will be the only pistol i sold. too heavy of a trigger, stove piping, i will never own another S&W auto.

They are FANTASTIC guns for the money. I bought mine when they were $329.99 with a $50 rebate, and 2 free Magazines. They were on sale recently at Academy for $299 but with no rebate.

YES the triggers can be lightened, and yes, they are superbly accurate! I have several semi-auto hand guns, some costing over $1,000. My Sigma is the most accurate gun that I own! I used my Sigma to qualify for my CHL and after it was all said and done, my target looked like I had just completed a sharp shooting tournament! The center of the target was punched out completely.

You won't go wrong purchasing that gun. They are easy to disassemble to clean, they are light & well balanced. The recoil is not as bad as you would expect it to be either. My gun "feels" right in my hand, more so than any of my others.

If you do buy the gun, and are tempted to modify the trigger, you can contact me. Parts are readily available at Midway, and common hand tools are all that are needed.

i will admit they are ergonomic but that was the only + that i can give them. a rock island 45 would be a good inexpensive buy if you would like a 45 vs 9 or 40 that is my most accurate 45

That's good info. Does it modify like the old Glock and their New York trigger? A Glock armorer should be able to do it easily.

Ok i just got back from Academy and they hade it for 299.00, but the guy behind the counter said that it hade a 15 pound trigger pull! FYI guys!

I looked at these for a long time. When i was ready to buy I went to Academy and played with it a while then selected an M&P instead. I heard a lot of negative opinion about the trigger and what not. I just liked the M&P better. It was a little more, but my wife was buying it for me for christmas so money was no object. I love it. It's sitting beside my bed now in the holster. 15 in the mag, and 15 in the spare mag. P.S. install lazer sights for home defense, you won't be sorry!

Smart thing you said Tony. You keep it in a holster. A holster is the best piece of equipment you can keep around beside the weapon itself. Too bad so many Wyatt Earp's around here don't know that.

Yep. The M&P doesn't have a safety. So the best you can do is keep the hole empty and the mag full and put it in a good holster!

Why keep the hole empty? It only makes you slower and besides it only makes the weapon more dangerous and I like them dangerous.

I can jack a .40 in there and start leadin' quicker than most can pull back a hammer. It's all about practice. I depend on this gun (in paticular) to guard me and my family. I wouldn't ever use a gun for self defense that I didn't shoot on a regular basis. Besides, I live in the middle of nowhere, I can go out on my front porch and shoot right now! One of the perks of the country!!

Yep the Israeli's do it like that. I personally don't like it but it's a matter of taste. They are also masters of point shooting. The Wyatt Earp's here don't know a lot about training much less different techniques of pistol fighting.

Yep, the IDF teaches this technique with single action pistols. It was started using Browning Hi-powers. It was a rapid response to an immediate threat. The IDF didn't trust single action pistol in the ready condition with lots of civilians around.
