Anyone live in the area west of Houston (Waller, Brookshore, etc). How do the prospects for dove look. I understand last weeks rain pushed them out a bit.

I've thought about sitting in my backyard at times but I didn't think the apartments behind me would appreciate it.

Thick as fleas out in Cypress. I've thought about doing a day hunt out here but don't know who to go with? Any suggestions?

I have been to 4 day hunts with different outfitters in the Katy, Brookshire, Waller and Cypress area. They were all a waste of money!! I have not heard of one person having a decent shoot out in that area but I have heard 100's of complaints. I cant believe these outfitters get away with this crap. Paradise Hunting Club is one of the worst.

Yeah, I hear you; my experience has been pretty much the same out here. Still, with all the birds there are in the area, you would think somone would be putting on a decent hunt.

Ditto on PHC

Here is some info I posted several years ago in which I warn against leasing dove land better suited for waterfowl. I am sure that there are some good dove leases around Houston however, in 15 years of dove hunting, Circle H (east side / Devers area) was the only outfitter that had decent dove dirt mixed amongst their waterfowl leases. It may have gotten alot of pressure on Sept 1st, but doves always seemed to come back by late Sept and would stay through the end of the season. Late season was always great as well.

West Houston dove leases / "clubs" are notorious for consistantly poor shoots after opening day partly due to the pressure of other hunters and partly because the topography is better suited to waterfowl hunting. I would be willing to bet that the person you leased your fields from is a "Waterfowl Outfitter" (Gore, Jasek, Hurst (Paradise Hunt Club), Wagoner or someone subleasing through one of these outfits )trying to pay for his leased waterfowl land with the dollars he has generated from new hunters or at least new hunters to the area. I know this is true because I have heard these outfitters laugh and joke about duping new hunters back when I used to guide for them. The only Waterfowl outfitter that has land that is consistantly good for dove and includes late season is Circle H. on the East side of town with the bulk of his land in the Devers area. Hope this helps and for all of you other season lease dove hunters out there, let me give you a little tip: BEWARE O THE WEST HOUSTON DOVE CLUBS!!!!!!
