Just got a set of Talley Light Weight scope mounts from Natchez yesterday. Went to mount it on my 300 Win Mag Encore barrel and 3 of the scope ring screws stripped when trying to torque them down to 30 in-lbs. Thought I was saving a few dollars over the DNZ mount, maybe I was wrong. I have sent an email to Talley. Will wait and see what they say.

I have Talley rings on my main rifle. I went with Talley because they were supposed to be the best. I honestly don't know. The set I have works. That's what I know. I'm interested in how they take care of you. Customer service means a great deal to me.

Those are aluminum and you have to take that into consideration. They can't withstand the force steel rings can.

Talley are awesome rings really work well. I've never had any issues with them in the past.

I thought i would try them out and save a few dollars over the DNZ mounts I have on my other Encore Barrels. The torque specs weren't specifically listed on the mounts. I went by the guide on my Wheeler Fat Wrench that said 30 in-lbs.

RTFM. 7. Torque recommendations: For the lightweight alloy mounts: 20-25 in-lb for the base, 17 in-lb for the rings. Steel: bases 20-25 in-lb. Fixed rings, bottom screw 35 in-lb, top screw 17-24 in-lb. Detachable rings: large bottom screw 35 in-lb, small bottom screws 30 in-lb, top screws 17-24 in-lb. We do not recommend using Loctite but if you choose to do so then we recommend that you use a NON-permanent kind of Loctite.

For a moment I thought it might be a Tally-whacker ring. No pics please.

There were no specs on the insert that came with the rings. In retrospect I probably should have looked it up on-line instead of basing it on Wheelers insert. Thanks for giving me the right specs!

The good thing is, Talley will nearly certainly make it right, quickly, even if they weren't wrong.
Another tip would be to re-check/torque the rings after the first box or two of ammo is run through the rig. I've noticed that a couple of times on Talleys. Mostly on harder kickers.

I've got the Talley quick releases on a Kimber Caprivi 375 H&H and have put several hundred rounds through the rifle - no problems so far. Even took the scope off and put it back on to see if the mounts really hold close to zero and they were surprisingly back on target which was a pleasant surprise. These are steel rings but I think Talley makes a good product.

Talley did send me a whole new set of screws. 7 of the 8 held fine. I'm hoping the 1 loose one wont cause my any trouble. They even sent me torque specs in an email. Wish they would put an insert in the packaging with the mounts though. I will chalk this one up as a learning experience and verify and check next time.
