Took my son bow hunting Saturday night and ran into a problem that left me scratching my head. We were set up on pig pipe and had plenty of hogs. These hogs get a lot of pressure and here's the problem. We have a couple of XLR 250 Kill Lights in green. Every time I hit the button, they were gone. I would turn it on pointed up into the tree canopy and tried to bring it down slowly. The last one was crunching corn so I figured it would cover the noise of the click, I put my hand over the lens, clicked the button, gone. I'm not even getting the light down on them. I start with it pointed up and try to bring it down. A couple of them were huffing and headed out, so we may have been winded, but as soon as I clicked on the light, they speed up and, you guessed it, gone.

Any though wheteher it's the sound, light, combination of both? Any thoughts on how to get a light source without spooking them? I even resorted to a dim flishlight with no clicking sound to try and determine if it was the sound or the intensity of the light.

Get a mousetail pressure switch for it. They are silent.

Get some solar 'path' lights (or similar) and setup on the feeder, so they get used to having 'some' light around. Do this well enough, and you won't even need the bright 'kill' lights.

They don't flinch at my XLR250 but I do have a motion light at my feeder that they are used to.

I read a post that it works better if you bring the light from the ground up instead of the sky down. I have no idea if or why that works, but it's worth a try.
