Are you acrylic stabilizing the cedar? I've tried some but seems it wants to try and crack and being a soft and light wood, the tone never was that great.

Thanks guys!!
Gravy, cedar toneboards will always create a softer tone duck call due to the nature of the wood. I have considered having some stabilized but i am not a big cedar duck call fan.

That black knotted area and the rasp part really sets this call out there by itself. Keep the pics coming!

Thanks Wal, There were so many cracks in this old wood I actually glued it to my mandrel buy accident.. Had to heat the mandrel to let the glue release.. Personally I really enjoy doing one of a kind stuff like the fence post call.. You never know how it will turn out.. The cedar post was hard as a rock I thought it was gonna come apart any second on me..
In a previous post you mentioned something about reading a book? Do you mind me asking what book? I have seen some online but never purchased one myself.. But i am always looking to improve or learn another way of making calls.. Eventually I would like to get into metal reed calls and carving...

You should try Bois d Arc..we used to use it on fence posts when we had to have them last w/out being treated..and it's hard..should have a lot of personality..DD

This is the book my wife got me for valentine's day. Honestly it is not very good. I don't recommend it. It seemed extremely basic so far as what I would expect. I have never turned barrels, only read on the internet. There is nothing in that book you don't already know. Don't buy it you can borrow this one if you are set on reading it. I just have to have it back as it was a gift. One that will keep on giving in a negative way if my wife figures out I gave it away. http://www.amazon.com/Turning-Custom-Duck-Game-Calls/dp/156523281X
