 Second Hatch????

The young rooster are turning colors now.To my suprise I am seeing younger birds, about the size of a quail. I believe we have had a second hatch. It's looking good.

huh?  can't believe i was wrong all these years. my story sounds more fun.

Wait a second! You are not wrong, you are right. We have well documented published data showing that pheasant hens will indeed have a second hatch.
Google "Experimental Pheasant Resoration Project" click down to page 49 to the title NESTING. Hens with radiocollars were well documented in producing a second brood after successfully hatching the first healthy brood. This second hatch behavior is called double-brooding.

how do you know you are not seeing hens that were just late in laying? kinda like fish, not all spawn at the same time. I think it all depends on weather, not only rain (which is the most important) but temperature, ect.a late spring I really doubt that you would see a second hatch. just what I observed growing up in western Ks.
