We all know you need a tough bullet for pigs and it also needs to come from a powerful cartridge. I'm talking the usual broadside , boiler room placement . But I have recently seen some of theese bonded, big game bullets totally exit the pig with marginal expansion. The bullets I'm talking about are trophy bonded tip and tsx's out of a 7mm mag. But fast expanding bullets just flat don't work either. Question is, is there a "perfect" pig round? I've taken hundreds of hogs with everthing from 223 to 300wm and still haven't found it.

On the tsx and ttsx got to go light and fast. ..I dont see a point in them over .27 caliber

I really like the Nosler Partition line of bullets. I have had really good success with the Partitions.

I like a boolit that does both ends of the spectrum, will hold up to hi velocity impact on shoulder shots yet will reliably expand on lower velocity behind shoulder shots. That is a nosler partition in a nut shel.

Others I have tried and liked are Sierra Pro hunters and Swift Sirrocos(similar to nosler accubond)

Now with nosler partitions lets talk accuracy beyond 300 yrds. I know everyone sets up a feeder at 100 yrds or less but what about follow up shots on multiple pigs, we have all seen them stop or even try to come back in.

The closet thing to a perfect round so far has been the accubond. Very accurate at long ranges and holds together well even at close ranges.

Just like any other bullet some rifles shoot them very well others may not. My 223 has put 3 in one hole a couple times and always prints samll groups with them.

My 270 shoots them very well also

The accubond is made to mimic/copy the partition.

I might be mistaking but the B.C. is different and the accubonds do not have the partition.

Of course I'm drinking crown right now and numbers begin to blur after the third drink.

I have shot the 60gr in my .223 and 180gr in my .308. They were both very accurate.

The last pig I shot with a partition was about 15 years ago with a 6mm. It dropped it dead. This round is long in the tooth and y'all may have sold me on going back to it. Anything else?

You need to grab some partitions and give them a shot again. I guarantee you will not be disappointed with their performance.

Does anybody, honestly feel comfortable taking head shots on a pig at longer distances at night using a spotlight? I know how a lot of us hate them but I also like to find them so I can eat them. Lets hear from the small caliber guys. I've done this but rarely was comfortable with seeing a pigs ear at 200 yards.

I've had excellent success with 140 grain Accubonds (AccuBOMBS) out of my .270. They pass through boar shoulder plates with no problem, usually leaving a good sized exit wound...in fact, I haven't recovered one yet.

Caliber wise I am liking the 6.5 Creedmoor

Bullet wise the search always continues. What I would like to see is Winchester offer their Razorback XT projectile as a component only.

Also whenever Berger can bring online the Classic Hunter (Hybrid) bullet in 6.5mm I am thinking that will be a great bullet.

I've stuck by nosler partitions for years, have recently been using Sierra SP, 100 gr in 25-06 simply because I had a bunch to shoot up. Was very pleased with the accuracy, and they seem to be a happy medium between expansion and penetration on hogs. Cheaper too!
But then again haven't lost too many with the 257 wby w/ 100 gr barns tsx either! (Or the 120 gr partition)

Ive always heard the perfect hog bullet was a 17gr V-Max lol

I know , the perfect pig "bullet/gun" is the one in your hand but this topic is if you had a choice and could label a specific type of bullet "perfect" for taking a pig at any distance. For me it would not be a 17 hmr.

I use a Grendel w/ 129 gr Hornady SSTs............ nobody gets up and walks away..... not yet anyhow....

I use the 168 grain AMax from my .308 with devastating results on pigs. Head shot, broadside or quartering the results are always the same dead pig.

I've used sst superformance 308 and had to shoot multiple pigs multiple times. Theese are well placed broadside shots , always retrieved a slug. I have not weighed one but I know they loose a lot of weight on big pigs. Just what I have seen for what it's worth.

I have a pic of a deflected .243 75gr v-max straight on head shot followed by a earhole shot. I'll email them to someone so they can post it, I'm posting off my phone right now. Always just heard about this. 275lbs boar.
