I never had any problems at all with GHG? Used them for years and beat the crap out of them, never had a leak or any paint chip off. I agree with staying away from redhead brand, pure garbage. Mine didnt even last 5 hunts That is because you didn't go hunting with me, Garret and Dave. We made some famous decoy destroying shots at the bay this year.

If you are wanting the extremely cheap route, then get on craigslist. Now is the time to do it. Be careful some of the people on there think their decoys are gold. You can find good deals though. If you are a bay huter then get any old decoy you can scratch off of craigslist.

You two new guys give me a shout.
I will help you both out with some decoys.
You will need to come up to Pottsboro to pick them up.
I will give you some mallards, pintails, and a few others.
Headin' out of town tomorrow, but will be back Monday.

I bought some Avian x decoys. They have a very realistic paint pattern. They seem to be holding up very well.

This is my first post here. I live and hunt on the coastal prairie in the rice fields and river bottoms between the Brazos, San Bernard, and Colorado rivers. This was my 43rd season my first was 1969-70. I have seen the evolution of decoys and what we used when I was a kid would work now. Dont stress on it life like paint schemes are great but not that important. We went through a faze where we painted them all black. They worked too. There are some garbage brands but the new hunter will figure that out like I did dont buy more than a 1/2 to a dozen of anything at a time. To start some used flambeaus would be fine mallards, teal, and pintails you can add other species and brands as go along. I have flambeau mallard and pintail decoys that I bought in the 80s that used on every hunt this year and will use again next year. I also have G&H and GHG decoys in mallard, teal, and black duck. I do not own a widgeon or gadwall decoy. I do have a couple of spoonie decoys I found and 2 or 3 coots. Decoy placement and numbers are more important than brand or paint. None of the gadwalls, widgeon, redheads, and bluebills complained as the died over my rig. I went about 60 hunts this year and failed to limit 5 or 6 times. I too have a lot of decoys I would let go for nothing to a new hunter in the Houston area. Pm if you are interested

I'm a huge fan of good looking decoys. I got rid of all my 'b' grade deeks a few years back (stupid decision that regret now, sold 100 decoys and a mallard machine for $150).
I'd hate to admit it but, it seems to me that either ducks really do decoy to crappy decoys better or it's when I do hunt over other people's decoys, we're usually with a guide and on the X.
My best guess most cheap decoys are water keel and they move better.
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
