Had several long finds this year with the Garmin. Couple in the 300 yard range. Saturday evening a week ago the longest we ever had. Garmin said 634 yds when she went a point. Before we got to her, she had relocated 3 times, nice covey. Without the Garmin we would have thought she had ran off. These are great tools for a bird hunter. Really don't know how we got along without them years ago. Was alot younger then. but probably missed alot of finds as dog just ran off. La woods wasn't the best for seeing great distances back then.

When he can't find birds where I am, PeeWee takes a "stroll" every now and again. Always has. His litter mates were the same way. Part of the reason I chose not to keep that line going.

The other side of the story is, that whole litter were/are great at finding birds. And normally, if PeeWee doesn't come back in for a while, and come running in from behind like he's been trailing the truck, when you find him, he is like a statue (with a slight quiver to his tail) with birds in front of him.

The Garmin makes it possible, and even practical to hunt with a dog like that. Especially when the country is less than wide open.

Just one a year makes them worthwhile. Cracker had four this year. We almost ran over her birds on one of them.

Try bracing your dogs up with someone who does' not have one. We hunted with Jim Willis and his two dogs without them one time this year. We had to keep turning back to them in thick weeds.

I hope to have found a used one by next season. My pup doesn't range out too far, but I like the thought of knowing exactly where she's at when we're hunting new grounds. Like insurance, you don't need it until you REALLY need it and then your glad you have it.

Best tool ever for bird dog guy's & gals. Even with a fairly close working dog, when you get in thick stuff, or they cross a creek & cut back but you thought they were going the other way. Awesome tool.

I know a man had a dog that could make those long finds and he gave her away!

These two are a couple of my favorite pictures of Garmin finds. We have had several since these but these are my best two pictures.

I bought a Tracker direction finder before the Astros were available. I've walked all around the outside of a mott looking for a liver/roan GSP. Never would have spotted him (On birds, right in the middle of the thick stuff) if it wasn't for his blaze orange collar. I don't have a picture of it, but trust me, he was hard to spot! A Garmin sure would have come in handy

Bird dogs and gps are a marriage made in heaven! Garmin and Sportdog are both great, but I expect it will get better with technology and competition.

Coonie maybe the dog and the handler had some issues. Just think what a great dog you came across. Handler knew it was there, just couldn't pull it togather.
