I am going to plant some food plots at my lease near centerville, I am thinking of planting the biologic Texas Draw.
Because of the variety it offers and it is about half the cost of other seeds. Has anyone else planted in the general area? Did you have soil test done, if so what was the ph and what type of fertalizer did you use? Any other advice would be nice.

Thanks

Do you have an idea of how many acres you planted? Do you remember what was in the mixture besides the peas?

I would get a soil test if you could. If not then I would put down 300#/acre of 13-13-13. Testing for soil ph is also very critical and soil tests will tell you what you need. I am not a fan of premixed seeds as they are not usually made for your area. I prefer to buy my own based on local help from county extension agent or local feed stores. Feed store can help on fertlizer needs also for your area. As far as acreage I would try to get enough acreage based on the amount of deer in the area. If you think there are 20 that will use the plot then I would like to have 3-5 or more acres in plot(s).

do your soil tests, and do it right from the beggining if that's what you want to do. We got away from spending a lot of time on food plots every year as we feed protein year around. During the fall I overseed the ranch with rye.

I hunt in buffalo and planted oats and they came up good with just spraying grazon. I'm having soil test done as we are speaking and the consensus says lablab is the best in the type of soil we have there.
