Well I headed up North with some good friends to chase the famous Missouri Snow Geese this weekend. This hunt had been booked for several months in advance, and little did we know the storm we would run into. Like most Texas boys we aren't all that used to the snow, much less driving in it. We ran into the blizzard about Oklahoma City and it never stopped after we got to our destination of Maryville, MO. Upon our arrival we met the guide (Northern Skies Outfitters) and got all the details for the upcoming morning. After a restless night of sleep due to the excitement of the hunt, the 4 a.m alarm went to ringing. After putting on every piece of clothing we all had on, we went and got set up in the field. The snow covered a couple feet of ground and believe it or not Snow Geese hate fresh snow. So after sitting in a field for 12 hours and not firing a shot, our group became a little anxious about the whole ordeal. The next morning we awoke with broken spirits as we headed to the next field. Once we had gotten settled in, and the sun cracked the horizon, we realized this was the go-to spot. We saw a thousand upon thousands of birds, but the hunting was still very tough due to the snow laced ground. We ended up with a total of 48, 2 bands (which the little guy took his first and helped on the second), and some great looking White-bellied Blues (or inter-phase blues). All in all we had a great hunt, great memories made, and saw some beautiful country. The guide was very accommodating and Lord willing we plan on doing it again next year!
