My next question is what about hog calls- do they work? The silent ones work better, the best hog call I've found is FOOD.

So I have a .243 but I would like to know what would be better for hogs.. .243 would be perfect for piggies. If you want to try 'something different' get some Barnes TSX ammo for the .243; It will smash right thru the piggie, and take a bit of the 'shot placement' worry out of the equation! Then run that piggie thru a smoker, with pecan wood, and with apple juice or cider in the water pan !!!
