I'm looking for some birds near San Antonio. My wife and I are avid turkey hunters and are looking for some opportunities while we are stationed at Fort Sam. Thanks!

I'm from SA, but have no place in the immediate area. Pretty hard to get a quality place without getting away from the metro a bit. I go 3 hours west for my turkey hunting.

The hunt comes with private lodging in the Hunter's House, full access to the lodge, professionally prepared meals, guides who place the hunters in previously scouted areas for best chance for birds, etc. Basically, we provide everything but alcohol. Its a great hunt; dont knock it til you try it.

Is your lease in the South Zone? Is the price per person per day? How many turkeys/person?

South Zone. $200 per hunter per weekend (all day Saturday and Sunday). One gobbler per hunter per weekend. No charge for hog kills. Your group would be the only group out there that weekend.

So basically you are paying for the lodge? Ok, I still think it is crazy talk to pay that much for some birds. You could easily get on a deer lease that allows turkey hunting as well for that price.... but no one would be there to make your meals. Just not for me.

$1200 isn't bad, it's actually about average for a guided turkey hunt on a decent amount of land.
We offer the same hunt on 10K acres for $1000.

Now I'm speaking as a hunter not an outfitter when I say this- by the time you spend $ on gas and your time, scouting, feeding, and making trips to the lease you will spend over $1200. I consider a $1200 turkey hunt a above average higher end hunt, one that is not for everyone. If you can afford it then go for it, I am sure it is worth the price. Sure you can find a turkey hunt on Jose's back 20 acres for $150 and you might kill a bird or 2 but I bet if you spend $1200 on a hunt you will take a lot more home with you than a turkey. Just my 2 cents.

STXOUTFITTERS, you are so right! Most people do not realize the time we spend in the woods for our clients without pay. Then you also have to figure in stands, feeders, countless hours scouting, trimming brush, etc. When the hunt arrives, there are expenses for food, electricity, staff, and more that most don't consider. The hunt is the easy part, it's all of the prep work that leads up to the hunt that most just seem to forget about.
I, personally, don't make big bucks by doing this. I mainly enjoy the hunt that much. Most of us are that way....if not for the "hunt", we wouldn't do it.
Agreeing with you again...when you figure a $1200 lease, feed, groceries, time lost while working at the lease, setting up a feeder, building blinds, buying groceries for the lease, etc; it really makes you think: Which is REALLY the better deal?
But as mentioned way earlier...its not for everyone.

But as mentioned way earlier...its not for everyone. That's right! Oh and if you can find a decent lease south of San Antonio for $1200 please someone let me know ill snatch that up quick! If you are in a decent area you will spend at least $2500 on a lease. Your paring to hunt south Tx, there is a reason the price is high.
