Anyone hunt out here this December or January?

Just curious - I'm headed out there in February (first time to win any TPWD drawing) and have never been here before.

Dude, this is tough country. I was there for the Jan 18-21 hunt and I was amazed at the terrian. Out of 23 hunters there were two auodad taken, one of which was a baby. Be prepared for lots of hiking up & down canyons. I saw 1 Auodad about a 1000yds away, from one hillside across the ravine to the other. I saw two axis does down in the bottoms but didnt shot cuz of the climb back up. The whitetails know there off limits, cuz there everywhere. It is quite a place thou, wish I hadnt just got out of a boot from my torn achilles tendon in September, cuz Im still limping fropm that trip. They say no cell service, but I have AT&T and had signal from the tops of the ravines. when you get off of 277 on Dolan creek road, it will take you about an hour to get to the headquarters, so make sure you take everything you think you might want or need. Good Luck!

Ugh - Not what I wanted to hear.

I'm fine with the tough hunting part. I just wanted to hear about more game in the area.

Some great smallmouth in that stretch of river. They are very wise but they are catchable. Beautiful country, enjoy and good luck on your hunt. The wind can howl there.

Sad thing??? if it was still private property it would still be going and you could buy hunts. You like it cause it's cheaper, well this is the other end of that deal. They had enough money to buy 17,000 acres of private property to the tune of 30,000,000 or so dollars but now they have to shut down some parks.............

The purchase of the DR North ranch was a funny one...They were trying to sell the DRNA because they needed money.. All at once they had money $17 Million to buy the DR North??? and keep the DRNA??

Have fun and good luck! Success or not, you can at least enjoy the outdoors and it is better than working!

It was a pretty dang good hunt. Probably the roughest terrain Texas has to offer. Many that showed up weren't prepared at all to tackle the rocky cliffs and miles trekking the area glassing to find them aoudaddies.

I took 3 Aoudad in total, but was only able to recover these 2.
