I saw this in Georgetown, in the Sun City Subdivision. It is near their golf course as you enter the community. The sign says "Warning, Stay Back, Trapping." There is a spin-type feeder on the left side. The pole in the center looks like a very long branch holding the center up. The whole thing is only 50 or so yards off the main entrance road. I don't know what they are doing with the deer after they catch them.

Probably taking them away and releasing them further out. Seen them do the same thing around lake belting.

trap will be tripped by remote usually... they catch turkey like this too

They used to do it in my neighborhood in San Antonio.

It's awesome and is highly effective. Those suckers ain't happy when you go to tie them up and put them in the trucks though.

I wonder if this method stresses the deer more or less than one at a time with a chopper.

The relevant question is whether it stresses them more or less than a .308 to the rib cage, which is usually the alternative.

I think with the choppers, they're focusing in on individual animals - i.e. a big buck or older does. They can catch a bunch at a time with this method and are usually using it to get rid of as many deer as possible. It's also much lower cost than a helicopter.

They used to set the nets and then sort of use the "hog in feeder pen trap" technique where they wait for them to get more and more comfortable, and then detonate the thing when there are 10 of them under it at once.

Really cool to watch. Glad I never had to help with getting them out of the net.

Normally you put blasting caps inside a ski rope. The ski ropes are holding the net up. Wires are running to the blasting caps. Use a 12 volt battery to discharge the caps which cut the ropes which lets the net fall. Then the fun begins.

i work alot in that area and have wondered what that was.

Got almost the same exact set-up 100 yards from my house in the city park, but no feeder. They just dump a bag of corn out near the center. Seen abot 50 deer feeding under the net at a time. Never seen em drop it. They do that in the middle of the night. A&M Kingsville is running a study. Tagged a ton of deer last year, and now I think they hauled a bunch of em off. A lot of these deer are hand fed by the little old ladies around here and are not the best candidates for relocation. The whole study is stupid. City is paying $90k to A&M to find out something I could have told them for free. Yes, we are grossly over-populated with deer, and yes, the same deer stay here year round. They are fed pets. Why would they move off?

Our local game bioligist here in clay county uses a set up like this to tag and put trackable collars on the bucks. Has one at my friends ranch now.

They have been using these in Lakeway for years.
I believe they now sedate them after they have been trapped.
IIRC their first attempts at trapping and relocating them ended up with about 85% not surviving, hence the sedation these days.
