Oak trees....sawtooth oaks at that....dnt mess with fruit...you will have every critter in the county there when they start producing.... food plots would be an easier fix to what you want to do....but its always good to add a tree when you can www.nativnurseries.com is doing 5 free sawtooth oaks with a $50 purchase right now. they have a good selection of trees and i have heard good things about their trees from guys that have planted them. i am gonna get some persimmons from them and use their tree tubes, hopefully they will keep the critters off of them long enough.

If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

Lots of information already, the County Agent / extension office should be able to provide some good info. The Texas Wildlife biologist for that county can be a good resource as well as to what has worked in that area.
I have had good luck with fall pears for a fruit tree but no experience in the pan handle. Saw tooth oaks are some of the fastest producing trees in the oak family and would IMO be worth a try. Shinnery oaks are another good one to try. Have started lots of oaks on the property in Mississippi from planting acorns in pots so can transplant later with good success. When gathering acorns for this put them in a bucket of water the ones that sink quick will usually sprout and grow.

Plant your own oak or pecan tree. Soak the nuts in water for about a week to 10 days. Fill a 5 gallon with good sandy loam and moisten it. Poke some holes in the bottom of the bucket to let water escape. Plant 4 or 5 nuts per bucket with the pointy end pointing up. Plant the nut about 1/2 inch under the soil. Keep it moist. Eliminate all but one seedling when they get started. One should appear superior to the others. Try your best to keep bluejays, deer, and squirrels away from them.
All that said, it takes years for nut trees to produce fruit. I would buy some pear trees and plant them. Try to keep deer from killing them before they can produce. Deer love pear orchards. It will be a good place to target practice on squirrels, hogs and coons.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.
