I finally decided that Leupold fit my needs best. There was a nice fellow that PM'd me with a Vortex Viper 4-16, and I'd have probably bought that (just cause I don't have one), but I had already placed my order.

Wow! I almost hate to admit it, but I saw this thread and wanted to look at it and see what the guy was thinking. The guy was ME. Geez. Maybe I have CRS.

I'm a Nikon fan, its all I buy now. I took the Pepsi challenge at Bass Pro a few years ago and the Nikon Monarch 3.5x10-50 made my Var III Leupold 3.5x10-50 look like crap.

Well...I did try a Nikon Monarch in 4-16, but it broke within 60 days of purchase. Maybe the heavy pounding from my 223 recoil was more than it could handle. I replaced that scope with a Leupold 6-18 VXII and I like it much better than I liked the Nikon (and it hasn't broken, and probably won't). Thus ends my Nikon riflescope experiment. But...buy what makes you happy.

Absolutely. Everyone has their own preferences, use what works for you.

Personally, I like Zeiss Conquest, Leupold in Mark III & IV, and Burris in the XTR or their other scopes like Black Diamond or their target models..I have an old one w/locking crosshairs, ect
that has withstood years of pounding by several rifles including
a 300 Wtrby, and 338 Win Mag..now I gave it to my oldest son w/my
22=250..I do not care for either Burris or Leupold bottom end optics. I have a Mark IV Tactical 8.5X25 but it's expensive..also, I had and installed a number of Zeiss w/absolutely no problems..Most of the really low end items will not compare if used on hard hunting trips and long shots..Don

We put two Zeiss Scopes on two different rifles a few yrs. back
and both worked well..The 4X14 Conquest went on a 25-06 Sendero
that shoots dime groups, and the reg. Zeiss 3X9 went on a 222 SAKO that a Doc buddy of mine has owned since a child..took off a
German WWII Sniper Scope that his Dad who was one of Patton's Captains brought back..no side to side adjustments..DD
